(But for some reason I have the feeling that the borders are weirdly thick)

The borders were partially inspired by the two types of green in the original logo. But you have a point.

Modern designs have super-small borders, or no borders at all, and the fade isn't too noticeable (Windows 10) or have a long shadow (Material Design) Or nothing extra, just plain color (Average Minimalistic)
