Well no actually...
Im just saying a brony is any fan of the show who is not a little girl of like 5 years old... You don't have to meet other bronies, join brony groups, buy brony merchandise, or use brony slang/terminology. A brony does not have to be involved in the community in any way. Thats fine and your preferences on the matter are up to you. However, you are still one of us because all it takes to make you a brony, is appreciating the awesomeness of the show. You don't have to take it further than that.
You might be using the word "brony" wrong, or maybe you're believing some or all of the false judgements about us. If you knew what a true brony was, you would be proud to be one. I don't like it when any individual or group is misjudged and looked down on - unless they are actually doing something wrong, like hurting people... Bronies are the opposite of that though, if you took time to look up actual statistics and the results of scientific research done into the matter, you would see that in general bronies are way more kind, selfless, understanding, and friendly than non-bronies (I said in general, remember). Also, bronies have a much higher percentage of asexual people, meaning on the whole we are less perverted than non-bronies.
You may not be involved in our culture in any way other than liking an awesome show, but thats enough. Thats all you have to do. You don't have to go around wearing pony t-shirts and saying "hey guys, look at me, Im a brony!" all you have to do is enjoy the show, thats what truly matters. However, if you did ever decide to meet other bronies, you will make some of the nicest friends in the world, trust me.

Hating the older generations has absolutely nothing to do with being a brony. Do you actually consider the wiki page to be a reliable source of information? Most bronies appreciate the older ones except for Gen 3.

I really dislike this misconception that bronies are the extremists of the MLP fandom.

ShnarfBird In reply to DreamCrystalArt [2012-08-12 02:00:56 +0000 UTC]
Because it means "Male MLP fan" not "Extremist of the MLP fandom"
...
what do you mean
π: 0 β©: 1
DreamCrystalArt In reply to ShnarfBird [2012-08-12 02:25:41 +0000 UTC]
Some Females have told me they call themselves bronies. And what I mean is misconception can work in more ways than one. You say that there is a misconception of bronies being 'extremist' however that can be a misconception in and of itself. So basically it can be viewed both ways and thus any opinion from either side can be viewed as a misconception...

"You say that there is a misconception of bronies being 'extremist' however that can be a misconception in and of itself."
What exactly do you mean by that?

Ugh, in short you could also be incorrect in what you are saying too. That's what I'm saying.

Bronies are simply male fans of the show.
How am I incorrect when I say so?

I'm a brony but I don't mind some of the old generations of MLP. But, you have to admit G3.5 is pretty horrible! I mean just try to watch it!>[link]

Oh I know G3.5s were horrible! They are the only ones I don't like. The toys might grow on you over time but I refuse to watch the G3.5 cartoon

Yeah, i don't mind the other gens though they're not too bad. But, overall G4 is my fav.

I grew up with the G1s, so I lean more towards them... especially the toys because there is why more variety in poses over the G4 toys

I only really like Friendship is Magic, considering I'm a guy and all, but I despise the fandom. Their actions, shippings, creations, ridiculous ideals... it's so frustrating. I myself have considering rescinding my status as a brony, but I haven't thought of another term I could apply for myself.

I see what you're saying. Star Trek has "trekkies" and "trekkers". Does Star Wars have a term for their fans?

You know, I really don't know o.o I had to Google it and one of the yahoo questions gave a few.. I guess Star Wars is just harder to term...

I'm really starting to dislike the word "brony" too. I don't mind when others call themselves that, they're free to do so. But don't call me a brony (or a pegasister) when I don't want to be labeled as one. "Fan" is just fine.

I agree 110% . Iβve been into MLP since the 80s, I love all generations, Iβve been collecting the toys since I was a kid, Iβve made a few customs, I enjoy drawing fan art, etc. But I am in NO way a Brony. Iβm not even a guy for that matter. And I hate it when people consider ALL MLP fans to be Bronies or force them to be. And, yes, I too hate the term. Donβt get me wrong, though. If some fans prefer to call themselves that, then itβs their business. Iβm not gonna stop them. But us older fans just donβt care to be called that, or I donβt anyway. Same with Pegasister, which I believe is the term used for female FiM fanatics now.
And for those who have commented before me and said that the term βbronyβ applies to anyone whoβs a MLP fan. No, you are wrong. A lot of us older fans and 80s kids were fans of MLP before the FiM series came out. And the terms βbronyβ and βpegasisterβ were invented shortly after the release of FiM and mostly apply to fans that ardently follow that series and that series alone, unless, of course, you choose to call yourself that. So, no, these terms do NOT apply to everyone who likes MLP or donβt have to if the person chooses not to be called by them. There's no law saying you have to call yourself a brony or pegasister if you like MLP. Sorry to burst your bubble. For those who might not be aware of it: Back in my day, MLP collectors/fans were called βMLP Mommiesβ (this was commonly a fan term for the girl fans) or simply just βfansβ or βpony fansβ. And thatβs what I prefer to be called. And the term βMLP Mommyβ was actually invented by Hasbro.
