A Blossum daughter, Petal looking too darned cute for her own good. It's OK though, as she makes up for it by trying to steal my nose like a good little trouble maker should! heeheePetal has a misshapen head from an unknown, likely non-genetic birth defect (hydrocephalus has been for the most part ruled out).
Petal suffered birth trauma while being born and as a baby I didn't think she'd even make it due to severe bruising. The current hypothesis is that she'll have a normal head shape as she ages, so we're waiting it out and will see a specialist in a few months if she doesn't look better. She acts normal, plays with her siblings, and doesn't seem any differnt at all other than her domed head

i had a dumbo rat when i was young like really young i called him dumbo (little kid brain thought that was a genius name like how i named my rabbit skittles) he died of old age i loved him so much my rabbit skittles died of a dieses skittles was going to be food for my dads snakes like his sisters were he was a baby then but my mom had let me hold him while dad feed he snake the other two the snake was full and i wouldent have let dad feed the little rabbit to the snake anyways so my parents let me keep him.

Look into a reputable rescue, breeder, or shelter. I'd *never* recommend supporting the retail pet trade

Yes, I bought a rat at a pet store around 5 months ago, and she died of a brain tumor. I'll need to find a breeder around here. I think I'm going to wait a while before getting another one. I just bought a few gerbils (from the pet store, no breeders around here.. again), and no rescues for more than dogs and cats and birds

Yeah I prefer getting them from a breeder really, my two old husky rat boys came from a breeder. I'll definitely consider getting a dumbo next!

She's adorable! Her head may straighten out but even if it doesn't, as long as she's comfortable and in not pain she'd still make a wonderful pet! I have some deformed ratties. Raven's leg is bent up so it looks like she's raising her hand!

Well the concern is more since I'm a breeder, I want to know the cause if this doesn't "fix its self", but I'm told she's really too young for indepth x-rays, and ultrasounds.
Our first thought had been that she has hydro, but since she's not getting worse at all, and acting normal that's been ALMOST ruled out, and one of the vets swears she's not a hydro baby.
As a breeder, most my rats are related to her, so I need to know what this is so I can document it, and make sure this is not a genetic trait. If it is genetic, then I'll have to look long, and hard about my breeding program, like any responsible breeder of any animal would do.
