Description

So after many delays that have prevented me from finishing this piece before the final submission day, here be Annabelle's first lesson for the group. xD

Basically, the students had to do boat things since they were stuck on a boat for like a month instead of normal school work.  You could man the rigging, load the cannons, swab the deck, tie ropes, and a whole bunch of other stuff that needs to be done to maintain and sail a boat.
So in other words, the students were used as slave labor. Mediocre slave labor, but slave labor nonetheless.  The real crew probably took a load off and focused on more important things while everyone else was working on the menial tasks. xD

So what did Annabelle do for her assignment?
Well, aside from working the rigging my fluffy fox decided to learn how to navigate the high seas.  She already has a habit of drawing maps of absolutely everything, so learning how to read and use nautical maps seemed like something she'd enjoy.

Right now she's trying to take measurements of their positioning with that octant there, but was distracted by a visiting Wingull.
Originally I was going to have her use the nicer looking sextant, which is basically an upgraded version of an octant, but after reading up on it I found that sextants were better used for using the moon to determine a boat's position, while the octant generally used the sun's position.  The sextant is also supposed to be much more accurate I do believe, but also waaaaaaaaay more expensive; no way they would let students wander around with those things!

So basically I figure the sextants and octants would be used like how they would be back in ye old times: the captain and real crew use the sextants at night for main re-positioning of ship's course, while the students use the less expensive octants during the day for general tweaking of direction.

And can I just say
That I have absolutely no idea
How I managed to make the ocean look like that.
I mean really, it just looks amazing wow. xD

I'll show you the way of my arts, except for the background.  The background was me stumbling through the dark and I have no idea how I ended up with that. :'D

wow...what a beautiful scenery, now that's really amazing ;w;

Even though so many delays prevented you from finishing the work, at least you have the time to draw something complex like this. I mean I don even have much time due to my final project ;w; ....At least I drew something for the group, but it's not as elegant as yours ;w;

I wouldn't really call it complex.  The ocean is just making a bunch of lines and then blending some of those lines together, so it's not all that difficult to do.  But still! Thank you all the same~ >w<
