Description This is a WIP. Last Wed. mom had to go in for an operation and I went with her to the hosptial. There were complications so we were there WAY longer than we were supposed to be. I started to sketch out what I wanted the Liger Zero Phoenix cosplay I'm doing this year for otakon but pretty soon it turned into this deal here. So I just kept drawing and drawing and drawing and looky here! Its Liger Zero!

Anyways, I wanted some advice....do you guys think I should do this in gray scale or do normal coloring on him?

Bah, the more and more I keep looking at this the more and more I grow disappointed with it. The back leg is all mangled looking, the outlines are shaky as crap, the head looks distorted, ugh, I'm growing to really not like this piece.

Then again, the reference I was using was from out of those little comic things that use to come with the tomy line of zoids. The pic was no bigger than 3x2 inches so it made it hard as hell to tell the details. XP I gave up trying to look at the reference halfway through and this was the end result.

Being stressed and worried about my mom's operation wasn't helping matters either. XP

Thanks. The operation didn't last though she had to go in for full fledged open heart. XP

Gray Scale? It would make it look like it came from the manga then....hmmmm

I'm glad she's alright, and you can do whatever you want, I can't really decide either.

well, the head looks fine actually, and i think the way the back leg looks actually adds to the whole pic. the armor-shattering effect looks awesome. and dont worry, its a WIP, thats what tracing paper, gimp and photoshop are for!

i'd ask how the operation went but its kinda two years later now...

I still haven't done anything with this guy yet. Just lost inspiration for it plus I still have no clue how to go about finishing this. I am absolutely horrible at doing anything ensuring coloring on photoshop. And I'm only use to flat coloring with pens. Kinda my trade mark.

It went decent for the time but it failed in the long run. My mom just went in for open heart a few weeks ago.

lol, i actually saved the image and started coloring it today just for the fun of it, and if you want i can post some pics of it and ref. you as the creator (obviously). only if your ok with it though.

i'm sorry to hear that man, thats rough. i hope they get/got everything fixed the right way this time. i guess the thing to do is keep hoping and praying.

thanks^^ I've been too chicken to color it or shade it in real life. And I suck horribly and coloring digitally so it's just stuck like this.

If you feel like coloring it, go right ahead.^^ Just link back to the line drawing.^^

I have the fanbook somewhere. I think it was 041 it came with one of my liger models that was the tomey one. The original color faded from green to neon orange/yellow I believe.

alright then.^^ have fun with it!

Love the action in this piece. The tension in the pose and the movement of the head really says "look at me I'm pouring my heart out in this roar".

Normal colors would make it much easier to see what each of those pieces flying off of him are. But, you could always do in regular color and then turn it to grayscale in Photoshop, to see which one you like best.

Yeah, I actually was going to draw the LZP as I said and have him being 'combined' with the wings flaring out and everything but I didn't.

I actually drew this guy with the completely wrong reference. Side profiles and three-quarter profiles of zoids I can do without a reference. But front profiles I need to see what pieces look like what. I ended up simply improvising and adding extra pieces on this one more like a two-thirds view that you typically see of the LZP in.

I started with the front leg and then stopped looking at the reference and just drew this. The roaring with the energy zapping out of his eyes and the explosion of armor..normally my emotions explode writing but this time it came out in my drawing. That explosion there was from the fact I was so pissed off at how the operation for my mom went....-_- it was horrible.

I WOULD LOVE to color this on photoshop but....the thing is EPIC FAILURE. I can't color on there..it won't let me. Stupid corruption files....even when I could color on there doing all the shading and layering and blending of colors. I have no clue how to do that. Plus I have the most retarded mouse on the face of the planet..this thing is seriously and the track ball is screwed up. I need to go buy a laser eye mouse. XP

I'll color it normally then see what happens when I try turning it to grayscale. I was just thinking grayscale inorder to practice more on my lighting effects without worrying about the graidents of the colors.

Tried openCanvas (the old free one) or GIMP? Both of those use fewer resources than Photoshop (and GIMP can save in its format/open PSDs), maybe that'd help D:.

Greyscale can be fun to do.

Dregrith In reply to pointytilly [2010-01-11 01:37:12 +0000 UTC]

I have no clue what GIMP is actually -nervous sweetdrop- Open canvas? hmm...that might be agood idea.

I've never colored anything on a computer before so I'm just scared to death its going to turn out like shit no matter what I do to it. XP

RokubiThunder [2008-12-03 04:45:55 +0000 UTC]

I vote normal color! -waves hand-

Cause normal color with like... Drastic shading (I think) would look awesome.

Dregrith In reply to RokubiThunder [2008-12-04 17:22:35 +0000 UTC]

I'm still shaky on shading, I normally do flat art. Thats why I thought grayscale to show the different field so light without being destracted by color. but I'll try it.

RokubiThunder In reply to Dregrith [2008-12-04 21:05:58 +0000 UTC]

Ah! I see now. c:

If you've got Photoshop, the burn and dodge tools are amazing to do shading and highlighting with.

If you're doing it digitally, anyhow.

Maybe you should try it both ways and post 'em both!

well the image is kept see was this. One on side the ligers right (your left if your looking at the pic) would be bright like light was shining on it, the other sidewould be dark and the bg would be fading in and out between the two.
