Description A white version of my Azureus Supercar. It ended up being almost the same angle as my previous black render. This time though, I added a quick interior before rendering.

Rendered with Mental Ray with postwork in PS.

Very smooth and shiny: like a photo, but better. Although, the front wheel looks a little oblong.

Can you import this into a game? Like NFS? Why don't you make modding for games?

I'm not a big gamer myself, but it is a poly model, so I imagine somehow you could.

very good work; In what program it is render, if it is rendered whit 3d max and mental ray, can you tell me the composition of material car paint, background, the light and rendering scene. I know maybe i ask to much, but i will be very grateful if you cold help me. if you need any help i will be more than happy to give it to you, though a person so talented like you surely does not need it.

drewbrand In reply to cipriany [2007-08-22 14:25:38 +0000 UTC]

It's rendered in max/mental ray. The paint is just a standard material with a falloff in diffuse slot (top color is slightly lighter than the bottom color). It is then made to be the base of a shellac. The shellac material is just a raytrace with a white to black falloff in the reflective slot.
The scene is just the simple self-illuminated white plane above the car. The scene is then lit only with a skylight. A lot of what you see is actually acheived in photoshop after the fact.

hmm...the rear's kinda lacking actually. I've only ever really done one rear render of it and that's not worth posting. I guess though, you could check out the clay render of it in my gallery for an idea of what it looks like.

I am impressed!

Have you ever tryed some other rendering engine? actually if I was that good with mentalray would consider only vray as another render engine...Will be honest now. In mental ray usually is very hard to get the good balance between the final gather and the GI photons (atleast for me and those who I know), and not only ofcourse. So most of the renders comes out blurred/smudjed you name it. Your render is soo clean. Mentalray is waaay slower and harder to get good results, and additionally if you don't really know what are you doing there in MR you can be rendering days and still get shitty results.

I will be soo happy if you can give some details about that scene. Like how long did you render it, how many lights you have and so on. And not to forget what you did in PS cause i know people that do magic with even shitty render in PS.

drewbrand In reply to vankata [2007-03-29 03:22:00 +0000 UTC]

I've never actually tried any other renderer. MR is what came with max, so it's what I learned. As far as lighting and materials, I've got a long way to go....I think this one was just a reflective floor, with a skylight and the classic white plane above the car.

I think you nailed it on the last two lines of your comment though.....it's PS that's the kicker. PS is what I used to do before I learned 3d (I've been painting in PS for about 8 years....since v5.5) So most of the magic is done in there. This model is only my second ever car, so it's actually quite sloppy. The whole image gets a paintover basically, highlight parts, darken parts, increase contrast, enhance and sometimes completely add the studio look...re-draw body lines and creases on the car, smooth out reflections, making what rendered as chrome look brushed (much quicker that way)....everything gets a makeover (so for animation I'd be useless haha).

Actually, the third car render I ever did was the first one of this car (I didn't know about samples per pixel so it was low). Here is the image straight from the render: [link]

....and here is the final image after photoshop: [link]

As you can see, in this case, I did a lot of work on it afterwards (one of my favorite parts of making an image anyways)

Anyways.....thanks.

I see your strong points in PS. Whatever works for you, thats cool. Eventho that white render is still very awesome.

For the renders of the black one you managed to hide the aliasing issues and you got a good render out of it. Compared to mine...i am not very much into post working, I am digging it tho. Most of my cars came out straight out of the render and very very small amounth of color corection is what I am usually post working.

Good to know you work better man! and yeah as long as works for you...the final result is most important. and yeah as I said I love that image.

Will watch you!
