Description en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sidney_R…

Sidney Reilly - the "Ace of Spies" whose exploits supposedly provided inspiration for Ian Flemings' James Bond is now considered to be more of a confidence trickster, murderer and serial womaniser than a British hero. Much of Reilly's dubious past was known to the intelligence agencies for whom he worked.

Reilly, whose real name was Shlomo Rosenblum, was born in 1873 in what is now the Ukraine. He left a trail of false identities and devious frauds that made him precisely the type of person SIS (the forerunner of MI6) needed as an agent in its battle against Bolshevism. He later claimed to have been born in Ireland. Codenamed ST1 his agent number was later adapted by Ian Fleming in his Bond thrillers as 007.

His Russian contacts during the first world war made him invaluable. Reilly organised a counter-coup against Lenin in September 1918, a plot penetrated by the Bolshevik secret police. Narrowly avoiding capture he fled his home half an hour before Cheka officers arrived. After the uprising's failure Reilly was condemned to death by the Soviets but escaped capture and returned to London.

Reilly was ultimately tricked into returning to Moscow, against advice from London, where he was arrested, taken to the Lubyanka and repeatedly interrogated before finally being shot in the back, during a walk in the Sokolniki woods outside Moscow, at the direct instruction of Stalin in October 1925.

Note - the alert amongst you might notice that although Reilly died in 1925, well before the second world war, the sub depicted is a 1945 U-boat and the car is a 1950's Riley RMB Saloon (best I could find in SketchUp Warehouse!)

Wonderful work, my friend, I love the vintage "film noir" feel to this and I'm impressed by your research of the character

Love how you combine all those lights. The warm light from the car, the setting sun, the light from the boat. And the birds in the sky add more to the atmosphere.

Why you dislike. Us so much that you make Ukraine-born characters never be Ukrainians?! I mean why YOU ALWAYS TRY TO MAKE LIKE “our Nation is not worthy”?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DriPoint In reply to KunYKA [2017-10-31 10:26:25 +0000 UTC]

Thanks for commenting, however I feel your concern is a little mis-guided. Reilly was born in 1837 long before any of the three formal periods of 20th Century Ukrainian Independence so,, technically, he was Russian. Given his spying activity against the Soviet regime he may well, had he lived longer or been born later, have been a champion of the independent Ukrainian cause - neither I, or you, can ever know one way or another.

KunYKA In reply to DriPoint [2017-10-31 10:28:53 +0000 UTC]

I mean of nationality. Like... I mean if character lived on Ukrainian lands (no matter if they were under reign of another state or during Cossack state or UPR era) we would prefer to see at least one as Ukrainian. What a problen with our nation? Why it is so hard to make Ukrainian character?
