Description
This past Saturday we got a good look at the 12th Doctor's new sonic screwdriver. There are also some great reference images for the prototype as well as a video interview with Peter Capaldi showing off the prop, so between those and the screen shots from the show, as well as an image that Rubber Toe Replicas posted on their FB page, I was able to put together this model which will eventually be 3d printed in 15 or so parts as a kit and hopefully, fitted with electronics that mimic the light sequence and sound of the device. The assembly will also require 5 lengths of 5mm acrylic rod for the emitter section.Related content

Same. Although we may be waiting until closer to when the next series starts. They whipped this one up rather last minute on the show (they didn't even have the physical prop done when they filmed the scenes in the TARDIS, they added the shot of him holding it later on but the one he catches and the one in the console were both CGI) so they didn't have the toy in the works like they did for the War Doctor's sonic for the anniversary. Plus they made the War Doctor's sonic from a modified version of the 4th's toy so it was already halfway to production haha.

yea that is what i think too waiting until it gets closer when the next series starts that CGI kicks butt when it came out of the TARDIS and fly to him

Lol. I didn't take it quite that hard but I feel ya. Honestly, if any Doctor was going to have sonic glasses, Capaldi was the one to do it - they work for him but nothing beats the good ol' sonic screwdriver.

I absolutely love the new look Sonic Screwdriver, much better then it's predecessor which I was never a fan off. Can't wait to see it in action, and nice render too by the way

Thanks! I like it too, although I really liked the 11th's as well. I think the important thing is that they fit the Doctor that uses it and throughout the history of the sonic, they all fit pretty well. Would have been nice to see Tennant get his own (aside from the small changes between the slider button and the color of the wiring, paint coat, etc.) but he used it so well. I'm hoping they do something interesting with those mechanical bits on the sides, like have the top pop out with something inside, or something like that.

Yeah, I think the bits on the sides you mentioned are capable of opening up so they allow this new design, like it's past versions, to extend.
The 2005 Sonic I'm glad was still in use by the time David Tennant starting playing the Doctor in series 2 after using it at times in the previous years Christmas Special, and it was still pretty much a brand new design so I'm glad they kept it for David's Doctor's use rather then just waste it after one series.
