Description ok, call me a nerd, but I have made my own custom sonic screwdriver prop. It's is soooooo much better than the expensive yet made cheap-o store bought ones, though it doesn't make noise (yet). It's pretty good for just throwing some junk together and glue it to a light up pen. ^_^

Anyways, the list of things/materials and whateever I used to make this:

1 pen with a light on the end (my was a Batman pen I got free from a convention which I had several of so why not. Just took out the "bat signal" on the light

a roll of black electrical tape (for looks, hiding things, and holding things while they dry)

a strip of white tape (accent strip/color)

a strip of "metal tape" basically a roll of alumimen foil with a sticky side (accent strip color, and hide some odd ends when the white tape failed to look good. Ex, towards the top under the head.)

1 blue (or w/e color you want to use) marrble with a flatten side

3 hair clips (cut to pices and used some of the slected ends to decorate the head)

1 caligaphy pen tip (I have TONS of these and some repeated, so what the heck, it looks good on there and used it as the "switch" button.)

1 piece of some random part that used to work in some random electornic that was broken and was going to get tossed anyways.)

some gold colored wire (finishing touches on the random electronic part I used)

1 black tip with an opening on each end (No clue what it is, but if fits prefectly around the pen tip and I can still write with it, Bonus)

and clear glue. Not crappy glue, jewlery glue (though it takes a LONG time to dry full, it has a quick grab/hold so it dosen't ooze, dip, or move the parts. The problem with superglue, is that it tends to run and drys crusty, at least that is my experience with superglue, also it dries too quick. Say you want to change something, you can't with the superglue.)

The look is similar to the Doctor's, but with a few little added things for style.

I love it! I made sonic screwdriver for my Doctor costume a few weeks ago, and this looks MUCH better than my flashlight-and-aluminum-foil one!

skynark [2010-11-28 06:00:50 +0000 UTC]

wondering how long this took ya to put together?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Aerindarkwater In reply to skynark [2010-11-28 06:59:12 +0000 UTC]

Not long at long, I did take a overnighter just to make sure the glue sets in before using it. About 30 mins to rumage through junk to find stuff to put together on the lightpen, then about 5 mins thinking over which pieces to use and other to store out for some other random craft(s) that I may get around to doing if I had any ideas. Then carefully glue the bits and pieces on with tape to hold in place, set it over night, and vola, a light-up sonic. Still no sound yet, and the battery is start to run low now. Not bad battery life, lasted longer than I thought. how to find a new battery and figureout if I can even get to the battery holder >.< Hope I didn't glue over it.
Thanks for the fav, here's a liama.

Ah. Thanks. My brother also made one and it is a funny mix of 10's and 11's sonic. It's crome like 10s, but has a head peice like 11's and it's a green gem. Been meaing to post it up, but I'm lazy. heehee.

Well, good luck on your sonic. If it helps, I've heard that people got their's to make noise by getting a small speaker thingy from recorded music cards or something, though I haven't been able to try.
