Maybe the trees in the middleground should have been a lighter shade than the tree in the foreground? In order to represent distance, that is. My artists had a rule of the farther away a subject is in the picture the lighter and blurrier it gets, but the the subject right in front of you are crisper with darker colors.

Thanks for the critique! I usually try to follow this rule, but in the photo I was using for reference the two trees were similar in value and I was trying to stay close to that. I'll continue to keep this in mind for the next study I do though!
