(Introverted) (Careful) (Devoted) (Protective) (Strong-minded) (Stubborn) (Fearless) (Tactful) (Smart) (Somewhat blunt) (Loner-type) (Anxious) (Realistic) (Pacifist)
Filippo is not much of an outgoing stallion, and prefers to be reserved. Life taught him that. He's a bit of a serious guy, and keeps his sense of humour for horses that are really close to him.
He's really careful with everything he does, mainly towards strangers, and likes to plan things beforehand, considering every single possibility, specially the worst ones. That sometimes make him a little undecisive.
With those who earned his trust, Pippo proves himself to be a really trustworthy guy. He's devoted and protective, and does his best to not let anyone hanging. Always keeps his promises, since he only promises what he's 100% sure he can do.
Despite being a little blunt, mainly towards strangers, he can be comprehensive (not meaning he'll take your side though), and tactful, knowing exactly when to say what. Might be a consequence of his careful trait, but he figures his way out of situations.
When something is set on his mind, good luck trying to change it. He learned to trust a lot on his choices, and that kinda lead him to be stubborn and strong-minded. Even if he hadn't made the best choice, he still believes everything happens for a reason.
Pippo was always that foal who played by it's own. He always prefered being alone, lost in his little world, than dealing with others. Of course, once he grew up he learned to socialize and that wasn't that much of a bother anymore, but he's still often found wandering around on his own, being his thoughtful self.
Consequence of his habit of thinking too much, Filippo has some anxiety problems since he sometimes tend to overthink stuff. That makes him a bit of a pessimist, he doesn't really rely on hopes.
Altough Pippo might seem like the tough bold guy, he's actually a pacifist. He prefers talking his way out than fighting it.
Fun fact: Pippo deals with mares with ease, after all he was raised by a handful of them, but he just can't deal with males. He is very suspicious and never trusts fully on them.
History:
Filippo was welcomed into the world in a rather calm, oddly cold for the season, day. His mom, Freya, chose a little opening among the bushes to give birth, away from the chaos that her herd was. Not long ago, an agressive, brute stallion named Khoa had taken over the herd, defeating the old leader, and Flippo's sire, Almatiro. Since then, the remaining mares had been living in fear under his dictatorship.
The colt's birth couldn't have been at a worst timing. Freya feared for her baby's life, since he was now the only foal of the herd, and worst, wasn't Khoa's. She had seen what happened to the last Almatiro's foal before Filippo. Rhust had been rudely chased and picked on for nothing, and was now a bachelor that they often bumped into, but she saw the suffering in his eyes. She would never wish this for any foal, specially her son. Freya and the other mares felt powerless against Khoa, but if they dared to open their mouths, either they would end up badly injured or even dead.
However, Filippo somehow managed to live relatively well his first year. His quiet nature kept him from trouble, and he went almost unoticed by the herd. He didn't seem to have trouble with being alone, and Freya in a certain way was thankful for that. At least he was safe that way.
As Filippo grew up, he began to question why things were like they were. Of course, desperate shushes that came from his mother and the other mares didn't let him continue his questions, but Pippo was still curious, and Freya wanted her foal to understand so he wouldn't insist on the subject. She then explained it all, and used Rhust as an example. That of course made Filippo understand why being quiet and avoid trouble was the best for now, but still he wasn't satisfied. He found it an absurd Khoa lead the herd like he was doing, but for the sake of his mother he didn't do anything.
But then, the universe decided to test Filippo's patience. Now as the youngest of the herd, Khoa took the chance to reinforce who was the male and the boss of the herd by everyday chasing the colt off, just to scare, or sometimes when feeling like it, pick up fights with Filippo. Of course, being barely one year old, the chestnut began to gather scars since very young, but because of his calm and fearless nature, and fear for his mother's life, he took it all in.
Except one day things went out of control. In one particular winter when Filippo was close of his third year of life, Khoa was more furious than he already was because the mares was beggining to bicker with him and with herselves for the rare food and water they've found. It was being a really rough time, and Khoa wouldn't let his mares leave him because of food. The stallion began being more and more agressive, and this day he decided to let everything spill out on Freya.
One morning, Khoa was yelling at everybody how everything was going down the hill and how useless the mares were for not finding food for the herd. Freya, tired of all that since a long time, decided to yell back. At first, everybody, specially Khoa and Filippo, were shocked for hearing the usually quiet mare shout so fiercely at her dictator. But more than a deep shock, Khoa felt an even deeper wrath. Blindly he charged at the mare, easily throwing her on the ground.
Filippo's ears automatically flattened, and he didn't hesitated on attacking his leader, taking him off of his mother. The stallions then exchanged bites, kicks, untill the chestnut finally fell on the ground, defeated. Furiously, he watched Khoa walk away, and swore one day he would end this somehow.
After the fight, Freya was badly injured and had a rough recovery. She was stable, but still weak. At that point Filippo didn't know what to do. He wanted to leave his herd and search for his own place, but he didn't want to leave his mother and the other mares behind to suffer because of Khoa. Pippo had do to something, and he quietly began to think of options.
The rainy summer came around eventually, and the herd had been wandering for a couple of days now to the plains, where the grass was tasty and abundant. However, said plains were located on the other side of a river, and the flow was strong due to the recent rains. Everybody knew the wiser choice would be walk along the stream to find a shallow part of the river, but Khoa just wanted to get to their destination faster. The lead stallion made the mares cross first, to make sure they wouldn't stay behind in order to run away, and one after the other, they struggled a lot but got to the other side. The last one to cross was Freya, but she was weak. She could never cross on her own. Filippo offered to carry her, but Khoa was strict with his words, and demanded Freya crossed alone.
As predicted, the flow was strong and Freya's weak legs couldn't carry her through that. It took one wrong step on a loose rock to the mare be carried away. Desperate, Filippo ran along the stream, thinking of a way to bring his mother back. His heart hurt everytime her head went underwater, but hurt even more when he heard her screams coming out muffled by the water in her lungs. Pippo prayed as he ran, and as soon as he saw the shallow part, he jumped in, stopping his mother and dragging her to the river bank. However, it was late. Freya had drowned, and was no longer breathing.
The chestnut stallion, possessed by anger and sadness, once again raised himself and his voice against his leader. Khoa, knowing Filippo wouldn't be useful to the herd and no longer had boundaries there, prefered to chase him away once for all. Filippo then ran, ran away for days untill his muscles couldn't take anymore. He stopped in some unknown forest, and exhausted, collapsed on the ground. When he woke up, he didn't quite know how to bear with the pain, not only of his mother's death, but of leaving Khoa with the mares, letting him think he had power. However, there was anything else he could do but accept things how they were and now settle in his new life as a bachelor.
