An entry into the "Smaller Worlds" contest.

The objective of the contest is to depict a myth or legend with a creature under two feet in height. So! This was a chance to revisit my old design for Anansi the Spider. I first drew him waaaaay back in 2009 (crap. Has it really been eight years?!) I was nuts enough to give him all eight spider limbs, making him a difficult subject. He's really easy to make a jumbled mess out of.

This is the part of the Anansi myth where he visits Nyame the sky god to bargain for stories because his people are so bored. Hehehe. What a good little spider.
I guess I can expect to draw this little fellow every few years and improve on him little by little. ^.^

you know... I just realized, drawing a character with four arms is kind of impressive. I have trouble figuring out what to do with just two arms -Β but four? That's bound to be a great way of learningΒ toΒ do something with each armΒ (or,Β of how to draw hands).
I like what he's doing with both his arms and his legs. ^_^ This one turned out really nice. and the posing looks prettyΒ natural to me. ...he would look soΒ awesome animated...

It's great to see this guy develop. Really love how you handled the pattern and those clouds. Dig the cute freckles (?) on Anansi and Nyame, too.

There's plenty of it to go around that's for sure!
There's an infinite amount of crazy Gods and heroes to interpret. It really stretches the brain muscles.

Well Madam Zim, I'm glad you asked, For I haven't the slightest clue. However, Have you ever heard of Aesop's Fables?Β
I fully believe you are capable of writing Moral teaching stories Β

Of course! Fox and the Grapes all the way, man.

I think I might prefer to do something original, but it would also be fun to expand on a short fable or something. Public domain, baby.

LOL, No need to expand, I think you could easily make your own

I like how you keep coming back to Anansi, he's probably one of your best designs! It looks like he could have come out of a real children's book. And I like how bright and blue he is. The pattern on his poncho thing is also really appealing. You do patterns so well! (Unlike me, I am too lazy to do them so meticulously.)

Right up there with Coco and Pelly.
Patterns are a butt, that's for sure.

This is wonderful, I'm researching right now the Yoruba Gods for my upcoming original series, The Light Of The Gods. It'll be sort of Harry Potter-ish, but still very original. I've always heard about Anansi, even in my country, and he looks adorable here. Wonderful job.
