Description The second illustration I did for the forthcoming Wizard of Oz based CCG, release by Orion's Bell [link] Crack open those piggy banks, it's time to purchase some starter packs.

"...Oz had taken the shape of a most terrible Beast. It was nearly as big as an elephant, and the green throne seemed hardly strong enough to hold its weight. The Beast had a head like that of a rhinoceros, only there were five eyes in its face. There were five long arms growing out of its body, and it also had five long, slim legs. Thick, woolly hair covered every part of it, and a more dreadful-looking monster could not be imagined."
-L. Frank Baum, The Wizard of Oz

Thanks man! I was deeply embedded in the Art of LOTR books at the time, so I can't help but give you some credit for my inspiration.

Excellent job on an image that no one else has designed, you are a solo artist in bringing this imagery to the visionary text of L. Frank Baum. Thank you very much!

DSil In reply to MicheleRadio [2011-08-31 05:22:57 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! It is an egregious oversight. One of the coolest bits in the text is how the Wizard uses a different appearance for each who approaches him, and in the movie it's just a big 'ol holo-head.

i wanna see that in the eventual remake, which will be closer to the books.
and the tin man better cut something's head off in the movie this time!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DSil In reply to morqwal [2010-08-12 15:32:24 +0000 UTC]

Remake? Is this an actual thing, or just wishful thinking? Because now that they did Wonderland, and are working on Sleeping Beauty and Snow White, an Oz remake doesn't sound outside the realm of possibility.

morqwal In reply to DSil [2010-08-12 21:22:52 +0000 UTC]

well, i heard a rumor that tim burton has been trying to make a remake for some time.
im not a fan of some of his remakes. like wonderland. its a good movie by itself, but it really is more or less just like a fan fic piece based on the wonderland books, not really having a lot to do with the heart and what they were about. thats how i felt.
for oz, Mcfarlane horror toys hit the mark pretty well with the tin man. ^^
and yeah, its wishful thinking. i mean, the movie wouldn't be dark, but a few dark things would happen. it was back in the day.

wow! amazing, the concept and completion of design are breathtaking...and...here it comes...geekness! I would love to battle something like this in D&D, each eye having a beholder like ray attack, but it would be this massive brutal melee combatant as well...

OH and the CCG looks cool, the art on the cards is spectacular...

beautiful work!
