Correct me if i'm wrong, but didn't Cthulu have a kid or two (the only one that comes to mind is a giant octopus creature with wings on it's head, or was that his mate?)

Not in Lovecraft, but one of his followers, did give Cthulhu a wife and daughter, yes, both basically squids with wings if I recall correctly...
