Description This is a monster inspired by Pokémon, specifically generation 1. In this monster wanted to incorporate the art style and design philosophy of those early generations. That design philosophy being, a design small enough to fit on a small sprite space limit, while being easy to read visually and simple enough to understand at first glance.

In this case I wanted a Humanoid dog monster that was a fighting type. To do this, I exemplified it's muscles and gave it under-ware to make it look like a wrestler. This is what a lot of gen 1 pokemon did to convey fighting types. To fit the hypothetical sprite limit, I exaggerated the monsters portions to be a little sort. To not chibify it and to keep it from looking too cute, I specificaly tried to keep the design 5-6 heads tall proportion wise.

The idea for this monster was inspired by the dog headed Anubis and the Pokémon Lucario. Part of the thought prosses was to see what lucario would look like in gen 1. I also wanted to make less stylized then Lucario or Anubis, so I based the dog parts on what a real Egyptian jackal looks like.

I also tried to emulate the style of Ken Sugimori while drawing this because I like the way his early gen artwork looked. I've come to realize after drawing this that it was his art work and the simplistic design philosophy of gen 1 pokemon that give the art it's charm.

I originally didn't have a name for this monster, so I used the name Kobold as a placeholder name. After thinking about it, I've come up with the name Rufbold for this monster. 'Ruf' for the sound a dog makes, also because it sounds like the word 'rough'. 'Bold' for the abbreviation of Kobold and also for the word 'bold' itself.

I found this experience, the constraints of working within gen 1 design, really fun. I have more gen 1 Fakemon that I would Like to post in the future.
