You notice how pokemon doesn't specify the idea of meat? I mean it exists, but the animal it comes from is unidentifiable, and if it was, it wouldn't be a pokemon, but then that can't be true either, because normal animals don't exist in Pokeland!just trying to make a point, 4kids.
Pikachu's acting weird isn't he? Is he sick, or is he turning into the incredible hulk?

Did the crew think of eating a Magikarp when they stranded at sea? I seem to recall them thinking of ways to cook that stupid fish.

Well, ocasionally in the anime REAL animals are seen!!! (Fish swiming in ocean during the S.S. Anne episode and butterflies/ worms in the first/second episode, although, this mostly takes place in the first season due to lack of pokemom. How else do they come up with lables such as "mouse pokemon" 'cause that sure ain't a latin genus. Also, most times I think the food they eat avoids the meat side of things. Such as Onigiri (rice balls) wich are replaced by 4Kids with PB&J Sandwiches. Also when a human eats a pokemon curses are set upon them (Sinnoh Region). But there are rare cases of actually eating pokemon (the delicacy of slowpoke tails). LOL, I read too much Bulbapedia (I believe there's several articles there about this particular subject). Still, this idea of eating pokemon amuses me. I can imagine someone raising a magicarp to level twenty only to taste Gyrados flesh.... I suggest babeque.

Ever seen the youtube video where Ash asks prof Oak if he's going to eat Krabby and Oak responds "No, but if I was going to I'd eat the Krabby Gary caught because it's bigger."
Prof. Oak, making Ash look like a loser and telling kids of the possibility of eating Pokemon.

In the anime, regular animals exist. There are several episodes you see them, but the rule of cool states that they don't appear often because pokemon are cooler.
In the games, it's... actually not a secret at all that people eat pokemon. They totally acknowledged that fact in the Canclave library in the Gen 4 games. It's discussed only briefly though, and nobody seems to /care/ whatsoever.
In the manga, it has never been acknowledged to my knowledge.
