Tali is only the common, boring, requisite alien space babe, who cannot hope to match the wrath of a professional combat soldier who's been training since she was a kid.

Yep, that's why a united group of your precious uber-quarians were incapable of defeating one YMIR mech, that three humans proceeded to kill. And a group of your quarians were slaughtered, one by one, by a pack of Varren. And a group of geth utterly wiped out a full crew of quarians on the Alarei, as well as numerous groups of 'elite' quarian marines. Again, a human led three man group managed to wipe out all the geth. Grunt doesn't know shit, quarians are as weak as French coffee. Kal'Reegar (The Hero of New Canton) is the only exceptional quarian in existence. He makes up eighty percent of the Migrant Fleet's military might. I firmly believe that if they dropped Kal'Reegar onto the homeworld, he'd have all the geth surrendering within two months.
Ah yes 'tech knowledge', this has been rejected as the superior form of combat. A shotgun, some hacking attempts and a glowing ball isn't a match for a trained soldier with Spectre level equipment.
Let's weigh up their track records. Tali took down a geth and stole it's memory core, almost fought her way out of an ambush on the Citadel (still needed Shepard's help). After that, she ceases to become relevant for the rest of the game. In ME2, she's mildly improved in combat performance, but gets two whole teams wiped out in successive order due to her poor leadership skills (Kal'Reegar is the only one who survives her incompetence, because he's awesome).
Ashley however, manages to hold out against an invasion of thousands of geth, fight her way out of an ambush, and fights hard enough to survive until Shepard arrives. Then, at Virmire, she either takes part in an all out assault by the STG on Saren's base, even leading the assault if Kirrahe is killed, demonstrating exception tactical expertise, as well as extraordinary martial prowess. If you choose her to defend the bomb, she fights off wave after wave of geth troops, even when badly wounded, until Shepard arrives.
Come ME3, we find out she's been promoted to Lieutenant Commander (equivalent to Shepard's rank), and has made it into the Spectres. Let's remember what somebody has to do get in. Shepard did an awesome act of badassery, Nihilus cut an entire mercenary platoon to pieces, and nobody knows what Saren and Tela Vasir did, but it is commonly assumed to have been pretty badass. So Ash has been accepted into the MOST ELITE military unit in the galaxy, one that only the best of the best are even considered for.
Tali needs to go play with her tech toys, leave the real fighting to the real soldiers, she's not even in Ashley's league.

In pure fun, I shall speak in (better) defense of Miss Vas Normandy.
Tali is a Quarian, not a soldier. Her race, as a wholes is not as combat ready in the physical sense as Ashley is. She could never be. (until we know for certain in ME3...Yes, I am leaving that open, as it should be.) It's like comparing apples to hamburgers. Where Ashley is a combat soldier, Tali has impressed a decorated lifelong Alliance engineer. Ashley will never make a piece of scrap metal do precision jumps. Ashley will never be able to hack into a dying Geth and extract valuable data. The same data that cemented Commander Shepard's rise to Spectredom. Nor could Ashley provide enhancements to the Normandy's shields so all crew members could survive the Omega 4 relay. Tali is already a princess, tho she is too humble to admit it, it is an esteemed quality for any race to have.
And be cute all the while doing it.

I will not debate the merits of Tali's actions, they are self-evident. But when it comes to people impressing other people, bear in mind that Ash, as a Williams, was blacklisted from the start. She had about as much chance as a flea of ever making Corporal, but she did...and Service Chief, and Gunnery Chief. She's just so damn good at being a soldier that even without combat experience, she made it to the second highest NCO rank in the Alliance.
And then she manages to make an impression on Anderson, the most badass, deep voiced guy the Alliance has. An impression that earns her a post on the Normandy, an officer's commission, and the eventual (if temporary) command of the Normandy in the mission to rescue Shepard from Earth.
Tali's good with tech, there's no denying that. But she can never match Ashley for martial prowess (which the other guy was attempting to deny), nor can she lead troops into battle (as of yet, leaving that open for ME3).
But I was never asserting Ashley's superiority over Tali, just her equality with her. Those who say that Tali is better without ever examining the details just get my goat up.

Honestly, it's rather annoying hearing all the fans all but sign away their souls for the bloody Quarians! They've had over 300 years to find a new home, but what do they do? Whine about how nobody wants to just give them a planet of their own, or make a alliance with a bigger power to earn back their homeworld.
