Balwe Karm was a Togruta Jedi Master, member of the Jedi High Council, and the master of Thipa Luia'Zontak. He was born on Shili in 868 ARR and soon after his birth, he was found by the Jedi Order. He would become the padawan of Jedi Master Teck Brirteen, a Rodian on the Jedi Council. By the age of 32, Balwe Karm had become a Jedi Master and gained the same seat on the High Council as Jedi Master Mace Windu would years later. One day in 915 ARR, Balwe was returning to the Jedi Temple on Coruscant when a female Iessian by the name of Luia Goea'Sattinai-As Vala'Zontak approached him with a youngling; she begged the Jedi Master to take her son, Thipa Luia'Zontak into the Jedi Order so that he would not be turned to the darkside by his father, As Vala'Zontak, but just as she handed Thipa to Balwe, Luia would be shot by an Iessian bounty hunter. During her dying breath, Balwe promised the mother that he would train her son. By 929 ARR, Balwe would take the young Iessian as his padawan. During Thipa's training, Balwe encouraged his padawan to be different and not follow the Jedi Code to a T. In 934 ARR, the Jedi High Council would hear rumors that fellow council member, Naolmigra G'vaahk, had created a cult with other members of the order; as a result, Balwe and Thipa would travel to Moraband to discover the truth. The two would discover The Curtain of Ashes, a cult led by Naolmigra, and would engage the fallen Jedi. During the fight, Balwe would be killed by Naolmigra, but not before comforting his padawan during his dying breath.
