He actually got the "3D" thing right, instead of a gimmick tack on to increase ticket prices. Like the difference between actually standing somewhere (HTTYD, ToyStory3), and looking at it through a Viewmaster(Alice, Last Airbender)
Cameron usually know how to craft a compelling story though, take his audience someplace they've never been. Bottom of the ocean, on the sinking Titanic, live there for 3 hours as a citizen/observer, then gently bring them back to reality.
Personally, I think he's got a pact with the devil, or he uses mass hypnosis, or something. His track record for films is too good for a mere mortal.
