Description The first of what will be one of many pieces in this series. Type One (2095) is a personal project I have started that will deal with the ascension of mankind into what is known by physicist as a Kardashev Type I civilization. This series will deal quite a bit with mega-engineering, renewable energy facilities such as this one.

A Type I designation is a given to species who have been able to harness all the energy that is available from a neighboring star, gathering and storing it to meet the energy demands of a growing population. This means that we would need to boost our current energy production over 100,000 times to reach this status. However, being able to harness all Earth’s energy would also mean that we could have control over all natural forces. Human beings could control volcanoes, the weather, and even earthquakes. (At least, that is the idea.) These kinds of feats are hard to believe, but compared to the advances that may still be to come, these are just basic and primitive levels of control (it’s absolutely nothing compared to the capabilities of societies with higher rankings).

so im guessing it works by pumping up and pouring water down to power really big turbines?

basically water physics to power?

The original Type I civilization was Pre-colonial America. Living at one with nature, a stable population rate, respect for the earth and stars. Oh and NO Carbon footprint! No need to subdue all the powers in the world. That actually disrupts the interdependants of ecosystems. To be at one with the things that truly are needed for survival. Not hydro works of massive engineering. A world gone cold. Over produced to infinity and beyond. No turning back. Trying to fix the ailments caused by over production. I prefer reverse engineering. Back to basics. Is that possible?
... Great pic though! Love the colors. The sun has set on humanity. It will soon be dark.

That hydroelectric facility is beautiful for an industrial structure. Especially given its location.

Cool idea and art! But isn't a Type 1 Civ one that can harness all the energy on the Home Planet, while one "able to harness all the energy that is available from a neighboring star", is a Type 2? Prehaps a typo slip?
Also: Can't help internally hearing the Miami Vice/Crockett's theme looking at this concept!

dustycrosley In reply to Scarfield [2015-06-06 13:43:46 +0000 UTC]

Hey thanks for the comment. Yes you are correct, Type I harnesses the entire energy output of its home planet. I copied and pasted the description and I think what they met is harnessing the available solar energy coming from the parent star. So yeah, Type II harnesses the entire energy output of a star.

And yeah.....Crockett's theme would go great with this haha! One of my favorite soundscapes ever.

I just hope these advances don't come at a great cost, like how we're becoming weaker and less active.

If we can pull off engineering marvels like this it wont be by weak and inactive people.

EternalUniverse1 In reply to dustycrosley [2015-06-01 23:53:08 +0000 UTC]

What we need are stronger gene pools, better ideals, no more fossil fuels (and more of this of course), and less laziness in our society.
What do you think, do you know anyone who may be able to help with these?
