A little shout out to and his amazing rendition of a scene of these two a few chapters back elmutanto.deviantart.com/art/R… I owe you one, buddy.

I love the art everybody has been submitting on these two. Makes me want to draw more of these.

As for the votes, it did seem a little one sided, so I will continue from here:

------------------------------------------------------------
I noticed another huge difference between us humans and this strange and mysterious species in the last 30 minutes of running. It is the adrenaline. I knew something behind us is close, and relentless in the pursuit. That makes me motivated to move faster and with no rest. I have noticed that Kai’Faan has a harder time keeping up. I think since that mysterious link to their leader is broken, he seems to lack that sense of urgency. That slows down his personal Stealth Suit bodyguard as well. This guard had been great with working ahead of us to scout out the danger, but now seems more attentive to Kai’Faan.

Xin, on the other hand, has no problem keeping up with my adrenaline ridden body. Earlier, she seemed to have the same problems as the scientist, but after my encouraging speech, she is now focused on keeping up with me, almost as if my presence had replaced that link. Maybe I’m reading too much into it.

We saw our first encounter with the battlefield ahead of us. We came across a run down Ork Trukk, and I would have ignored it, if it wasn’t for the sounds below the trukk that the Stealth Suit Guard heard before me. He moved with a new purpose. I lost track of him, even when he was within a few meters from me. I steadied my Tau gun and looked through the scope towards the trukk. Two Orks had been trying to fix the undercarriage and axle (it seemed like). I never knew what they were fixing, because the next thing I saw were hundreds of bright blue pulse rounds lighting up the bottom of the rusty vehicle. The orks had been killed even before they heard a sound next to them, and all from that hidden Stealth Suit guard. Sooner or later, I’ll have to ask Kai’Faan what his bodyguard’s name is.

We had to move. I could feel something getting closer. The others couldn’t tell it, but I felt something start to tug at my soul. I think the daemon is homing in on my presence.

As we moved closer to our destination, I noticed fresh kills littered about the streets. Both humans and Orks alike. But now I realize why those greenskins are good scavengers. All forms of weapons and armor had been stripped away from all dead bodies. Can’t those little grots take a break? Then I saw a human patrol from a distance. Probably about 2 km away. We ducked under cover behind a huge pile of fallen concrete from the building next to us. I looked through my scope again to get a closer look.

It was a standard patrol unit from the 137th. Not only was it from my regiment, but this particular group had a painted icon of “a bird’s talon gripping a blood soaked stone.” That meant 137th’s “Impact Squad.” Brutus is in there. That man made it hard for me and my brother to make it through boot camp. Just because we weren’t big like him and his mates. I remember a visit to the infirmary because of a broken nose from Brutus. My brother (with a bruised ribcage) had sat by my bed to talk to me when he had any free time. I miss him so much.

Feeling the presence of something behind me come closer was terrifying. It felt like I could turn around and see terror staring back at me down the street that we came from. I looked to my Tau companions, and noticed that Kai’Faan and his guard looked ahead, oblivious to the danger I felt on our rear flank. Xin’Vauk, on the other hand somehow felt my angst. She was looking behind us, like she knew the direction of my concern. That link she had with Aun, could it be that…uh….I doubt it.

I have a choice, and I have to think quick. Something is coming close, too close now:

1) Keep my Tau companions hidden while I get to Impact Squad. At first, it might be scary to know I might be shot at, but they will soon realize what is coming behind me is a larger threat, and hopefully Impact Squad and I can defeat this thing. Even if we can’t, the Tau can move along while we are busy fighting. I know where Xin’Vauk is going, so I can meet up with them later, hopefully alone. That is if I survive.

2) Rely on Xin’s skill to sneak around the patrol. We can continue together, hopefully hidden in the battlefield to the caves. This thing that is chasing me, I think is only looking for a human soldier from the 137th. There are plenty here now. The focus could be taken off me, and I wouldn’t have to worry. But this daemon really seems to want to possess Commissar Setorious using the body of a common 137th soldier to get close to him. The Tau could escape the planet with the cure, leaving this planet to be the daemon’s playground. Is that something I can live with?
------------------------------------------------------

Voting will close march 12th.

The question to ask is: Is this a little daemon that the Guard can take care of?

Maybe. Randall hasn't the right mind yet to find out if it is.

Nice to see it back.

Option 2, the penalty for working with xenos and/or not answering questions is too severe (See IIUP)

Thanks for being so patient with me. I am glad you are around with your feedback and votes. It really helps with the story. I consider this the commenter's story more than my own. It seems that it has a life of its own now. I'm just here to illustrate everybody's decisions.

And you are right, there are severe "disciplinary actions" that could be taken if knowledge of Xeno influence is present.

Your vote is counted. I hope you are enjoying the story so far.

I like the choose your own adventure aspect of it, always nice to see.

And don't worry about the wait, people don't mind waiting if it means a better product (within reason of course).

And the input with reasoning does help out and make it more interactive, keep it up!

Well, if Randall is smart, he would drop all Tau related gear and approach empty handed. But Randall is also known to not think on his feet very well.

Thanks for the vote. Glad you are aboard helping out.

I vote option two. The guard aren't too forgiving, we know that for a fact. We walk in after being MIA this long, they'll suspect xenos, or worse, heretical influence and standard guard protocol is to shoot on sight. Furthermore, if we leave the Tau here, the daemon could catch up with them and cut them down no problem, if the guard don't simply fan out at our aproach and gun them down for it. If we sneak around, there's a chance the Guard can slow that thing down, or destroy it outright with the support from the chimera. One daemon, unless it's a greater daemon of staggering power, cannot destroy an entire planet. As soon as the guard are alert to it, it's only a matter of time before it's sent back to hell. Our mission is to get the cure and dust off, so let's focus on that. After all, the moment we agreed to help the Tau, we must have known we could never return to the Imperium and expect to live.

AWESOME feedback. I love your explanation of the choice you made. We really don't know what is coming. It could be minor, or could be very powerful. Once an Imperial Guard from the 137th is possessed, it might be very hard to detect. Hopefully, Commissar Setorius has Inquisitors with him, but chances he needs them on a planet fighting orks is minimal. So if Setorius is possesed, then things might get ugly on the planet. A daemon leading an unsuspecting Imperial Army is scary.

You are right. The votes has led Randall to make a choice, and helping the dieing Tau planet is his choice now. Can he make the "right" choice to do this with a clear conscious? We will have to see.

Option 2 vote counted. Please keep up feedback like this, I really enjoy reading such things.

YEAH YOU BACK!!! And your art and story are still as great as ever, well worth the wait.

Tough choice this time. It would propably be simpler to go with option 2, but my gut is telling me that option one is the right choice to make. It would be immoral to allow the daemon to kill an entire squad, even if they are a bunch of bullies. Don't forget there are two worlds at stake here.

I go for option 1. Keep up the Uber Epic work!!!

Thanks for being patient with me. I am glad you are enjoying the story. I really don't know what will happen with the story. But according to the votes in the past, it does seem to land two planets in peril now. Way to go!!! It is all your fault you led him here.... Just Kidding

Option 1 vote counted. Glad you are keeping up, and keep up with the feedback.

NamelessManic In reply to ??? [2010-02-26 08:42:59 +0000 UTC]

Ooo this is a tough one. Will they sacrifice one planet to save another? I think they should warn the guards of the danger of the demon that way they at least are on guard for it. But that doesn't guarantee his survival from blaming, commissars do that a lot. I think option one. I doubt the Tau will abandon him if he gets into trouble. All in all one way or another demon will find humans.

Tau are cut off from the warp that's why they don't sense impending doom. She can? Interesting. I see a little thigh action there, she looks great too!

DustyGrafix In reply to NamelessManic [2010-02-28 05:44:13 +0000 UTC]

Nice feedback. I wanted to through in a tough choice here. If he goes with the Tau, will he live with the fact that he will save one planet while sacrificing another doomed planet? "Oh perils of the warp, why do you tempt us so?"

I don't know if Xin can feel the warp as Randall does, but for some reason, she can begin to feel his anxiety. Using his feelings to gauge the danger. Is she that good at reading his facial expressions, or is there a link begining to build here?

We don' know yet.....

Option 1 vote counted. Thanks for the compliment on Xin. I try my best.

Option 1 seems the better of the two to see a fight.

It would be tough to take on the whole recon squadron. Even with Tau Tech. So it should be either choice 1 or 2. Randall isn't much of a strategist. He thinks quickly on his feet, and sometimes it isn't the best choices he can make.
