Description
Good lord, you have no idea how long I've postponed this drawing. The first sketch was probably done soon after the S3 finale. After that, every now and then I've been working on it. Eventually tiny step, after tiny step, it was finished.
First of all: I’ve never drawn or designed any kind of armor, so there are definitely points to improve on. For starters, if this would be legit battle armor welp...say goodbye to your pretty pony princesses. Seriously especially the neck parts are the weakest points with all of them. (on the other hand they could still use force fields to protect themselves.)
Just a few comments about this whole concept:
-Celestia: I’m pretty happy with the design of her armor suit. Don't know about you guys, but gold/yellowish colors truly fit the princess of the sun.
-With all the armor designs I was a little inspired by the armor designs from the idw mlp comics. This was especially the case with Luna: ponyvillegazette.com/files/201…
Although I prefer silver armor for Luna more than gold. Perhaps they choose gold to make her less similar to Nightmare Moon. However if you compare NMM’s armor to the coloration that I used, it’s more bluish silver than white silver. However I did use the bluish silver of NMM's armor as little highlights for Luna's armor. Thought it was a nice little throwback to do so.
-I used white/blue colors for Cadence’s armor as representation of the Crystal Empire. The curls are a nod to the curls in her mane, but also to emphasize her as most feminine of the four princesses (she’s still badass though)
-Rule number one for Twilight’s design: simplicity and no additional decoration! Heck she said it herself after noticing Rarity’s accidental, unfinished birthday dress: ‘It’s so… simple. So practical. So me! It’s the perfect dress for my birthday party! I love it!’And that’s what I went with. Not such a while after coloring I realized that her big bro has exactly the same colors for his armor…some sort of fail from me to forgot about that detail. Still, it could also be a nice nod to her sibling.
-The background texture comes from a painting I made some years back, with a bit of editing done in Photoshop.
Figured this would be some sort of propaganda poster. It's better to intimidate intruders and scare them off, before getting into combat with chances of losing many lives (of course the best solution is to befriend adversaries). Bonus for getting in the right mood for this picture: www.youtube.com/watch?v=naVoMF…
