Description I admit Rufus is a tad too oblivious here. Please appreciate all the layers put into these two pages especially.

*Giggle* Nice to see the Urpneys get a little revenge.

By the way, look what I found: www.youtube.com/watch?v=bmw52B… and www.youtube.com/watch?v=fc_mwr…

It's the only review ever done by this guy, and I think it's appropriate. My favorite part of this has to be the original artwork, especially the little time between 7:05 and 7:37.

What do you think?

Yeah, I saw that too, an impressive review, and kinda replicates some of my sentiments. John krisfalusi style Dreamstone is also awesome.

It's not the best idea to base a lot of the show's analysis on the pilot however.

Really? How come?

E-122-Psi In reply to Ribbon-San [2016-03-05 16:09:22 +0000 UTC]

There is a huge tone shift between the pilot and most episodes after.

The pilot is a tense action cartoon with Rufus as the main focus of sympathy. The heroes are the underdogs, at least two of them temporarily DIE and the climax is way more serious, with the Urpneys even fazed out of dramatic scenes. In contrast, both sides also do a lot of slapstick rather than just the Urpneys.

Most later episodes are far more laid back and comedy focused, having something of a Team Rocket/Wile E Coyote type formula. The Urpneys get the lion's share of focus and are the blatant underdogs, with the heroes almost always in control and most episodes ending on an anti climax. The heroes also seemed to get a lot duller personality wise.

I tried to get compromise of sorts with the comic, the Urpneys' get a lot of focus, but Rufus is still sympathetic and the rivalry is more even handed, and both sides get in on the comedy while maintaining a semi serious climax.

Well, maybe he only had access to the pilot.

Anyway, I've always thought that the true pilot was the Dream Thief promo.

He mentioned some of these changes regarding the later episodes, though they seemed like a quick offhand note at the end.

I tend to just refer to the first episode of a show as the pilot. Some series do have more than one pilot however. Family Guy and Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog for example.

LOL I love the prodding gag it made me crack up, I'd be ROFLMAOing if it turned into an all out prodding "battle royale" for a final battle between Rufus and Amberley vs the Urpneys

E-122-Psi In reply to TheAnimationLord [2013-04-05 04:38:39 +0000 UTC]

Well we won't QUITE be getting that, but I plan for something deranged for the climax, don't you worry.

LOL I just love..yeah you've seen that coming.

I was wondering what it was that poor Rufus was sitting on though, I guess it's a part of Urpgor's device I assume.

You did an outstanding job though on that panal where Rufus looks upward, that was VERY dramatic andvery well done.

I wouldn't blame Rufus, I would laugh too if I was being prodded by hyperactive Urpneys too.

E-122-Psi In reply to David31 [2013-03-25 19:32:35 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, may be getting a tad predictable.

It's an airbag from Nug's steering wheel. Wanted to try something kinda random.

Thanx, I'm getting more adventurous with dynamic angles and trying more scenery art.

Told you it was a truly evil plan.

Still a positive comment is a positive comment.

Ah that's what it was, sorry for not paying attention.

It's certanly a dynamic and interesting angle for sure.

Indeed you did. :evil laughter:.

Very true. Thanx again.

That's okay, I should have made a lot clearer what it was, I might redo the pic with some stitching patterns or something.

The airbag looks the same to me.

E-122-Psi In reply to David31 [2013-03-26 22:30:12 +0000 UTC]

I've added some stitch marks, plus some movement lines to make it more a solid object and not a fart cloud as you worried it was. I admit it's not much at all, but that's pretty much what an airbag looks like.

David31 In reply to E-122-Psi [2013-03-26 22:33:11 +0000 UTC]

Oh I see yes, sorry I thought you were adding details to the airbag while Rufus' is sitting on it, I see now you meant the cloud and yeah it certanly looks less like a fart cloud and more like a messed up airbag which just had a slightily heavy Noop's butt caused it to explode. Awesome job.

TheGunheart [2013-03-25 19:26:50 +0000 UTC]

I wouldn't say so; if anything, him figuring it out right away would've spoiled the joke. Oh and hey, he remembered he had a sword again!

Only thing I will say is that it's a little hard to tell what's going on in the last panel of page 39. I can't tell if he's just kicked up a dust cloud from suddenly sitting down, or if he has a gas problem.

David31 In reply to TheGunheart [2013-03-26 21:57:12 +0000 UTC]

I'm not going to lie to you, at first I was thinking of the same thing, but said to myself 'No, there must be more to it then that', this show isen't known for 'that' sort of humour, but the silly factor of Rufus sitting on an airbag does work well for this.

E-122-Psi In reply to David31 [2013-09-14 13:16:19 +0000 UTC]

Well I might be willing to contend with that theory, Jupp recently gave this statement on Youtube:

"I designed The Whirlyped with the door under its tail. So, I'll let you figure out whether the farting noise was a coincidence or not! Tee hee!

Juppyxx"

David31 In reply to E-122-Psi [2013-09-14 14:14:28 +0000 UTC]

Oh that's typical Jupp all right. You know that he originally intended for Mr. Gallypot in Bimble's Bucket, not to be stuck in mud, but in pig's poop.

I think Mr. Gates was happy to keep the silly noises in, but probably not as to where they came from, probably for fear that ITV wouldn't air it. The BFG got away it since Roald Dahl decided to go by a different name no doubt.

E-122-Psi In reply to David31 [2013-09-14 17:46:01 +0000 UTC]

To be fair the usage of spit and snot was common in the show, not to mention the nausea fuel from scenes such as the opening to "The Spidermobile". I don't think toilet humor was beneath them, just they were mercifully subtle about it.

Well Dahl did have the unusual talent of making disgusting habits seem very whimsical and dream like.

David31 In reply to E-122-Psi [2013-09-15 00:11:36 +0000 UTC]

True, and it seems targeted towards the Urpneys only, since well the writers preferred them and well it suited them more.

True, Dahl seemed to know what a child would like from the world and put that into book form.

E-122-Psi In reply to TheGunheart [2013-03-25 19:30:50 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, had to put in his sword he used for maybe two episodes (though it's better than the ones the Urpneys used for ZERO episodes).

It's an airbag, I guess I could have shown better that he was sitting on Nug's steering wheel from their previous "Urpney Tactic #371", I just wanted something kinda random and silly for a Rufus scene for once.

TheGunheart In reply to E-122-Psi [2013-03-25 20:04:44 +0000 UTC]

Ah, now I see it! It somehow escaped my notice that he was sitting on the steering wheel the whole time.

E-122-Psi In reply to TheGunheart [2013-03-25 20:07:07 +0000 UTC]

I admit I could have made it clearer (Rufus' ass conceals a lot of it ). Just wanted something random and 'Cloudcuckoolander' like.

Maybe I should detail the airbag more, add stitching details or something.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

David31 In reply to E-122-Psi [2013-03-26 21:55:24 +0000 UTC]

Well let's face it, he does have a large rear, probably large enough for Amberley to have a good chuckle at poor Rufus' expense if he landed ass first into a bucket or something?

E-122-Psi In reply to David31 [2013-03-26 22:18:17 +0000 UTC]

Funnily I have another 'sitting randomly' joke for my next story, with Amberley throwing a temper tantrum and Rufus having to sit on her to restrain her.
