Description I don't usually draw ornithomimids very often. Don't know why. They're cool-looking and weird. Poor little fellows. So I wanted to give 'em a chance too.

I didn't anything else to do and this is why I restored the head of a Gallimimus, the "rooster mimic". With a thin coat of protofeathers it should be right, like a modern ostrich, but I wanted to portrait something naked. Don't get me wrong. This is also a "tribute" to Raul Martin and his work starring Struthiomimus. Despite he drew them featherless. Sigh. Oh, and the red area is not entirely the beak. The real beak is only that thing with all those "stripes" and stuff like that.

A funny thing: the original title was going to be a simple "Head of a Rooster Mimic", but the more that I looked the more it reminded me of the Joker. I'm crazy, I know it.

Coloured with Tria Markers and pencils. Based on cassowary.

References: Raul Martin, Will Svensen

Enjoy it!

On my blog too, with a Black and White version and the Original Lineart: [link]

Ps: Sorry for the colours' quality. Bad scanner.

"Want to know how I got these scars?..."

"My father was a theropod...and a dromaeosaurid. And one night, he goes off crazier than usual. Mommy gets a claw to defend herself. He doesn't like that. Not...one...bit. So, me watching, he takes the claw to her, laughing while he does it. He turns to me, and he says, "Why so serious?" He comes at me with his claw β€” "Why so serious?" Sticks the claw in my mouth β€” "Let's put a smile on that face!" ...

"Is it the scars? You wanna know how I got 'em? Come here...hey...look at me. So I had a wife, beautiful...like you...who tells me, I worry too much, who tells me I oughta smile more. Who gambles and gets in deep...with the palaeontologists. One day they tell her that soft-tissue cheeks are impossible due to phylogenetic bracketing. And we have no money for surgeries. She can't take it. I just wanna see her smile again...hmm. I just want her to know that I don't care about the scars. So...I stick a razor in my mouth and do this...to myself. And you know what?...SHE CAN'T STAND THE SIGHT OF ME!

Nice!

If Gallimimus is the Joker, then who's Batman?

Bagaraatan. It sounds like Batman. A bit. And it's mysterious like the Dark Knight. More or less.

That's really nice! I like the the ears and the rare proto-feathers as well.

The eyes are really nice, they kinda remind me of the eyes of the characters from the Winx Club cartoon.

I love the details and how you did the eye! Your dinosaurs are actually some of the most plausible, like they would have likely been in real life! It makes me wonder, are you a paleontologist or did you maybe study paleontolgy

I love how the eye look big and shiny, and how the ear is clearly visible. I'm guilty myself of making the earholes too thin and inconspicuous sometimes.

Really? Thank you, the eye was the only thing I wasn't very happy with .

Cool colours! Kinda makes me think of a cross between a cassowary (with the colours of Joker), and a crane for some reason.
