Description It's a planet orbiting a stellar core either as the star pulses to a red supergiant, engulfing the planet, or as it expands into a planetary nebula. As the expanding plasma hits the planet, it creates a shock front of denser gas, as well as vaporizing compounds on the planet’s surface, creating a long comet-like tail in an analogous process, albeit at much higher temperatures.

I chose Europa for the planetary texture because the craterless and scarred surface full of long cuts seems to be accurate to the appearance of a world undergoing this process of being "washed" with plasmas. Although Europa is white with water ice, this world is similarly colored from silicates. Over long exposure to its parent star’s Corona, and finally its “baptism by fire” of the star’s outer layers, the high temperature plasma has stripped away all but the strongest (highest melting point) substances in the planet’s crust, and due to high-temperature, high-velocity ionized gasses, is currently crystallizing its surface.

For this reason, I’ve decided to call it “The Refiner’s Fire.”

Yeah, first all-original, non-fanart piece I've done in awhile - though I guess that Orion MPCV is one. Anyways, yeah - I do like astronomy, ya'know!?

Drawn for an assignment in Physics 127, actually (had a lot of options to choose from. I chose the "Be artistic" option)
