Description Blaze is completely shocked and scared stiff of what he's witnessing. Though it may be obvious to us at this point, Blaze has only ever encountered werewolves before, and though he's heard tell of vampires from his time at the forge, he has never come across one himself, until now.

And if you think this new baddie's violent, consider this: one of my favorite book series, "Guardians of Ga'Hoole," is rated for 8-12 year-olds. It has characters getting their eyes clawed out (with empty sockets exposed), getting disemboweled, getting their talons or wings ripped off, and there is even one character who gets his own heart ripped out. If you ask me, that's pretty heavy stuff for kids.

At least I give viewers fair warning of what they might see in my pages.

Ga'hoole is also one of my favorite series !! And yes, despite being for children aged 8-10 years, have you ever read Warrior Cats? You'd be surprised how much violence have these books, and instead are wonderful too.

Good god. I hope this vampire thing has a heart, cause one day I'm gonna put a stake through it.

Good luck. You would not-- I repeat-- would. Not. want to cross paths with her under any circumstances. You would be guaranteed a slow, painful death.

Plus, the stake would only work in this world. Over in Cyrin a stab through the heart only works in the presence of a reigning monarch, but even those instances are rare because bad things will happen if a vampire ingests royal blood... Very bad things...

Ah, yes. I often forget that Cyrin is its won world entirely.

Ingesting royal blood, that doesn't sound good at all...

Not gonna work with this thing.

Water is her only hindrance, and only sunlight or a stab through the heart by or in the presence of a reigning Cyrinian monarch will kill her.

But good try. Quite frankly I'm surprised she let you live after that.

I have to say I definitely saw that coming, but this is still an interesting twist. Finally we see what the mysterious girl really is.

I haven't read any Guardians books, so I don't really know how gory those are, but have you read any of the Deltora Quest series? I loved them as a kid and now, but they have some really dark parts for children's books (I mean *really* dark: people getting their flesh melted off by poison, a woman having her face partially ripped off, flowers that grab people and eat them, etc.). Personally, I don't think this is too gory, but then again, I read pretty heavy stuff all the time. It's rare that I can get interested in a story that doesn't have any violence; it just feels fake. I think you have a good balance here.
