Description
When I arrived at Moat Walk, the cygnets were flapping down the Moat, some flying. They landed at the end, but one kept on flying, and began to gain height. He flew around for some time, and flying behind the Cathedral. Knowing he wasn't yet fit enough to stay up too long, I was concerned when I lost sight of him, then I heard a crash, squawk & thud in the park behind me. Rushing to park, I found the cygnet totally knackered, panting like mad, covered in branches & leaves. A woman shouted at me to not go near the bird as it was dangerous. Her shouting upset the cygnet, but he was so out of it that as I drew to his side, I threw my gilet over his body & picked him up. He didn't even have the energy to turn his head & have a go at me.

People had gathered, and some were telling me to put it back on the Moat, which I did but was annoyed I had, when I saw his leg sticking out at an odd angle. I went to the Palace Trust office and told them they had an injured cygnet. They said they'd monitor it. I found Beith, who's a volunteer at Secret World www.secretworld.org/ She came to Wells, and we tried to get it to come to us, using food pellets, but its siblings & parents were keeping it away. The General Manager asked me how to recognise it, and I replied "If you had them ringed when I asked I could tell you." At the time most of the birds had their legs tucked under their wings. It took a further four days for the office to get Secret World to come and rescue it.

It's now receiving medical care, and I've been told it's doing well. It will be released on the Levels, as the swans on the Moat will attack it. As to a when & where release date, I was told I'll be informed so I could be there.
