Description i like to see how other people make their drawings, so i thought maybe you'd like to see how i made mine...

on the off chance..

i was pretty sure i'd mess this drawing up at one point, so i kept taking pictures of my progress, so i'd remember bitterly where i went wrong if i didn't finish. sorry for the huge file size...

this made me happy, im waiting on a set of prismacolor pencils to come in the post, i ordered them 2 weeks ago they've still not come! I've drawn a lightning and shaded it slightly, i hope that when my colours finally come, it will turn out someone near the quality of this!

Wow! I'm amazed at the colour consistancy you're able to manage when working on such small sections in the tirtleneck; especially since you stopped working on it halfway through!

Just a question here, why do you shade your pictures in with pencil first, before you go over them in pencil crayon?

so i have a better idea of what i'm up against.

wait, so you've this with watercolors and pencils??? and what kind of paper is that that doesn't get all curly and mountany? also, doesn't the graphite mess the colors up?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

EatToast In reply to suthnmeh [2008-08-04 19:23:56 +0000 UTC]

the paper is bristol, which does get a little crinkly, but that's something seemingly unavoidable..and the graphite is light enough that the pencils go right over it without affecting the colors. the really light areas, i have to erase the graphite, though. keeps it brighter.

it wasn't so bad. i actually did it while watching tv..so it didn't seem like it took very long.. i did that in colored pencils

suthnmeh In reply to EatToast [2008-08-04 20:17:11 +0000 UTC]

ok, i'm gonna make you happy now: your gallery inspired me so much, i actually had to run to the closet and get all the painting junk and even PAINTED!! dude, i haven't painted in like forever! I'm gunna be posting it ASAP, and i hope you stare at it for long, cuz it's V!! yay!!!

i usually don't find it useful to draw/paint while watching TV, cuz I get too distracted. Cartoons blow my mind.

i'm fascinated that you color over graphite shading. whenever i do that i make the worst mess and my colors are all like......pukey kind of. D:

What's that Jurassic Park thing?

Also, your colouring skills are so awesome I ripped my own eyes out upon realising that I could never colour as good as that.

But they just grew back anyway, I'm part lizard.

Bah. I find myself extremely jealous that you can work with traditional media so well. I usually use photoshop, and I can't even get that right.

Ah, well.

So, how did you learn how to use the pencils and the watercolours? I find myself completely useless at paintings and such... did you learn from a teacher, or someone in your family? Or some other way altogether?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

EatToast In reply to BlackBlur13 [2008-04-07 21:18:32 +0000 UTC]

i found my own ways to work with the pencils. in the past i've taken a few classes on mediums i'd normally not have the opportunity or room to use like oils and clay, but most of what i do is trough trial and error.

Makeup brush! haha I thought I was the only one who used those things for art lol
Totally understand about looking like a freak cause of all the smudging going on your arm and stuff. I usually end up with stuff on my face cause I forget it's on me and so when I go to scratch my nose of something, nice big smudge on my face lol.
Final product looks awesome ^^ Your hand must've killed after you finished.

EatToast In reply to Meilin-Son [2008-04-07 21:19:30 +0000 UTC]

it's actually funny, my right hand is actually a little bigger than my left. it's taken a life of its own. i usually get stuff on my face too, it's just not as apperent.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Meilin-Son In reply to EatToast [2008-04-07 22:16:37 +0000 UTC]

It's usually really apparent when I do it, I had a charcoal project in high school and if you've ever used that stuff it's bloody smudges. So I got this huge streak of charcoal on my face I'm glad I looked into the mirror when I was washing my hands or I would've gone to my next class with charcoal on my face lol.

You're too cool for me.
I can't show this to my fridge or it will be jealous of the fancy things posted on yours.
Also, your dinosaurs and Jurassic Park pin are way awesome.
It looks like my desk, only I have lots of other animals, like a sheep with no face and a three-legged horse.
Lastly, may I question your removal of speech-bubble technique? It is very clean in the next picture.
