This is so helpful! May I ask how do you blend the colors together?

Thanks! The pencil colors will blend themselves depending on the pressure you put on the points when drawing.

Ooh, thank you so much for this. ^^ I'm often times seeing these amazing colored pencil pictures and thinking "man, I wish I could do that, but I don't know how to get that effect". So it's nice to finally find a very good tutorial on colored pencil coloring. ^^ Many, many thanks and I hope to use this in the near future.

I found this a while ago and used the dark shades first/light shades last skin technique tonight (I only used three different shades of peach/brown though XD) as opposed to the usual light to dark. It turned out great! Thanks for posting this!

I know my comment is a little late, but I was able to get my Prisma pencils for just under 40 cents each at a college bookstore. Not a bad price, IMO, and you can build your collection a little at a time.

Prisma colors? Well they sure are awesome, but quite hard to find I think. I mean... the usual art store I go to sell literally everything an artist might need, except for prisma coloured pencils! I should sue them for limiting my artistic possibilities.
I'm really glad you posted this tutorial. Many coloured pencil n00bs (like me) really need some guidance in using these babies. Very well explained, excellent work!
