Remote (for the fifth week of Inktober52 2021)
I drew this based on two things: Old Tjikko, the oldest tree in the world and negative art.
Old Tjikko is a a 9500-year-old Norwegian Spruce discovered in Sweden, in Fulujället National Park, in a pretty remote place. It is actually a clonal tree, meaning that while the root system IS 9500 years old, the trunk renew itself hundreds years ago, so it's not as old. Still, it is a pretty impressive specimen, I thought.
Second thing mixed in is negative art: when you're drawing everything OUTSIDE your subject to make it apparent. It's quite fascinating and I really encourage anyone to check it on the Internet, because there are magnificient examples of what it can offer. It's basically the art of doing great silhouette. And Old Tjikko had a great one so I thought it would be nice to draw it with this art technique.
