Hibou is a Eujovian planet in the Calyx system, 985 light years from Earth in the constellation Lyra. This system was first colonised in 4285 AT by AmBlla AP (this date corresponds with 6254AD in our calendar). Hibou has spectacular rings, and these were easy sources of volatiles for propellant and for habitats in the Hibou moon system. Hibou has fifty-eight moons, mostly minor ones. The AmBlla colonists built habitats on these moons, and also built floating bubblehabs in the atmosphere of Hibou.

This system was wracked by corruption and mismanagement when AmBlla became a state-capitalist economy, and these worlds suffered an economic crisis when the nearby Cygexpa empire was dissolved. Many of the habitats were abandoned or had minimal occupancy for a thousand years, until a new wave of colonists arrived (mostly provolved birds and bird-like humanoids with a strong musical culture).
