I was told it is a zither, but they all look similar

It would depend where they were built and of it was double stringed or not. Zither have twin strings and kantele have single strings, but they also call the Chinese quin and the Japanese koto as zithers as well. So I am under the impression that zither is their common name.

I read that kantele are originally 7-stringed and from Finland, and zither is from Germany/Austria. From photos on google I can say they look different
