You should read "The Seven Geases". Tsathoggua is friendly even to food!
Unlike Lovecraft, Smith isn't terrified of things simply for being unearthly. XD Which is probably why some of Smith's creatures are comical or neutral rather than scary.

That's why I labeled this artwork as "fantasy" and not "macabre and horror", which I do only for really scary works.

This is one of the most comically grotesque Tsathogguas I've seen, which is how Smith liked drawing and carving him. I love it. Especially with the prehistoric Hyperborean setting.Β

Yeah, but very little of Hyperborea can be seen due to Tsathoggua's size... I think I'm gonna paint or draw a pure Hyperborean landscape soon.
I've seen the visual artworks of CAS and many of his own Tsathoggua depictions, and though mine is very different, yet I understand your point. Many of his drawings or sculptures really look more comical than purely scary.Β

Now that you pointed it, it really looks like a fusion of Yoda, Jabba and Chewbacca.

It also bears some similarities to the gremlins from the Gremlins movies. After their metamorphosis of course.
