This time of year is when most birds molt their feathers. It probably dropped that feather and is growing a new one right now. It's completely normal and nothing to worry about.

What a gorgeous bird. I remember seeing one of these at a bird sanctuary down by a beach. It was a marsh that had salty/fresh water so a bunch of wild birds as well as fish and stingrays (seriously).

Thank you, I happened to see one fly over the beach and decided to walk around the bay area. I found this one down by the very end of the boardwalk where you can see the tip of Assateague Island.

That is the best spot to bird watch. In the winter there is all sorts of cool ducks hanging out in the inlet there.

I have never really spent much time around there. It's so different going back to the beach that I am a photographer.
