Description
This is a large 30"x40" watercolour that I painted off and on for several years. The rays of light were scrubbed out using a stiff brush. I had trouble getting the atmosphere as dark as I wanted, so after many layers of Paynes Grey I finally enhanced the darker layers using Photoshop CS2. I've sworn that I will never do a watercolour this large again!!Prints available atΒ www.edselarnold.com/prints/ on my portfolio website.

Thank you for the kind comment. Yes, it is an angel playing the harp. I actually had an old friends model all the figures in this scene, and even found lambs. I just had to look up images of the camels, though!!

Iβve always had a fascination with angels, but so many portrayals
of them these days leave a lot to be desired! For instance; a lot
of times angels are portrayed as cute little babies with wings.
Angels are NOT cute little babies! They are powerful servants of GOD!
Also many people think of angels only as warriors, but they are also
involved in cleansing, prayer and ministry.

I'm also fascinated by angels... especially the seraphim, or "fiery ones", who do nothing but burn with desire to worship God. I have an idea for an altar piece involving the seraphim... have to get around to working on it one day!

I must show this to my daughter! We have been reading about the Nativity, and she will love the soft, gentle, peaceful feeling you have captured. Thank you for such an intimate "look" at the true meaning of Christmas.

Oh, Thank you for commenting. I enjoyed this painting, but it doesn't seem to get the response that some of the others do... I'm sure partly because it's seasonal and partly because it is so obviously religious. I hope your daughter enjoys it as well. My kids like it, but they enjoy most everything I do!! LOL
