Thanks so much for your kind words. This is one of those pieces that still makes me happy when I look back at it. Often that's not the case... I want to redo this or that! LOL

wow, major Robert Jordan fan here, I was chasing around pictures of the moon goddess when I found this one on an astrology site, which led me here and I am glad it did. Super-impressed, nice work. Lanfear to boot.

Thanks! I've been meaning to do this idea forever, so I'm just glad the contest came along to push me into finishing it! Time for art gets pushed aside sometimes with work and three kids, so this contest was just what I needed for that creative shove!! Edsel

Considering what her true purpose was finally revealed to be (before a certain someone snapped the twig), showing her as a Goddess works wonderfully!

Wow! Thanks so much for the compliment. Working on a companion piece for Graendal, but I paused on it when AMOL came out. Should get started back soon, as I've finished AMOL and I'm even close to a skimming re read of some favorite moments. So sad to think it's ended... probably the most moving series for me since LOTR!!

Thanks so much!! I love art nouveau and crescent fingernail moons, so it seemed natural. I've started a new piece on Nynaeve that also has an interesting border... kind of Vienna Secessionist crossed with iconography. Working on the border and have the figure loosely scribbled, but it's complicated and with three kids and a full time job it's gonna take awhile... hopefully I get it out before the final book!! LOL I also have a grand idea for several characters based on a comment you gave me before... but it will really be an undertaking and I don't want to go into it on the board and give away my idea before I can get to it!! Reading book 12 again by December 15th ish, then book 13 again by January 13th ish. Can't wait for the final... but really sad at the same time.... bittersweet....

Oh, boy, do I understand! I started my reread late - hoping to get it done in time, but at the same time, do I really want to? I've been invested in this world SO long.
Can't wait to see your new stuff. I'd really love to see you come to JordanCon and be in the Art Show. I know you're really busy, but you are so close to the convention....you'd have a blast, too. We just launched the Art Show registration form today on the JordanCon website (as a matter of fact).
The other thing is, at this next JordanCon, I'm carrying out a devious scheme to raise money for charity while having a great time harassing our Mat Cauthon cosplayers, and it's all based on your Mat and Tylin scene. I'd really love for you to be able to see all that brought to life...for a good cause, of course.

I would like to check out the convention, and the Mat Cauthon harassment sounds like a blast. I'll check on the art show registration. When is the convention this spring? Guess I could just check out the site for that!! LOL
I'm loving my re-read. I love these characters. I don't really hate on many of them...Egwene irritates me with her sense of self importance... but I even love reading about her at times. I'll be so sad for it to end.... It's been a really long investment.... and this series rates right up there with Tolkien for me. I've really learned a lot from the characters... and the different interest groups in the novel... reminds me so much of Christian denominations and they're prejudices towards one another even though they are all working toward the same goal and "Tarmon Gaidon". It's really informed my Christianity even though it's not a Christian novel, per se. Guess Jordan was like Tolkien, and couldn't help his high Episcopalian beliefs seeping in any more than Tolkien could keep his Catholic ones from entering Middle Earth. Plus just learning about how different we all are, but how important... and how we all have our own past and point of view that informs our actions, though others may never see it. Just an amazing creator of character studies, really. I've read on Dragonmount that Rand and Egwene really shine, but I'm telling you, if Nynaeve doesn't blow everyone away with some major healing genius, I'll be sorely disappointed!! LOL

Thanks so much. I have to say I'm enjoying your portraits of the characters... They really look like real individuals, and I think in fantasy we tend to make everyone look similar except for the extreme defining visuals (Nynaeve's braid, Elayne's red gold hair, Moiraine's jewel, Mat's hat and scarf).

Ha, thats so true. Its not until I start to sketch them that they really flesh out for me. I had to keep checking the wiki before I do any colors because I had everything a little off.
I adore your work also! What program do you use?

I'm actually an architectural designer... in fact, I'm old enough that I even missed out on computer architecture programs and did all my drawings for work in pencil, ink and watercolor until our office said I didn't have time to color my elevations anymore because they wanted me to focus all my time on design. So a work friend that did marketing started to color my architectural elevations in Photoshop until the recession, and when we both were afraid that she would end up in the layoffs. Then she taught me a little Photoshop, and I inherited her office CS2 license and Wacom board. The office let me put it on my home computer, and I started playing with my own art for fun. I need to upgrade to CS5...or whatever is most current, but I would have to buy it myself on my home computer because our office is still on CS2... yeesh. So Selene was done all in CS2 and on the Wacom... I sketched on trash paper, scanned and imported to Photoshop and redrew it, changing things as I went... then colored in Photoshop. I'm learning and experimenting on my own, so if you have any tips, let me know!! The other pictures in my gallery are either all watercolor, or watercolor with some photoshop touchups and effects.

Thank you so much for both including my work and for the alert!! (I'm assuming of course from the moniker that you were the author of the Fan Art Friday! LOL) With 3 kids and a full time job in another field, I really have to work to find time for my artwork, so it really means a lot to have it noted and honored by a fan community that I hover around. Years after reading Lord of the Rings, I was still searching for Fantasy works that affected me in the same way as Tolkien, and I was beginning to think such a book was the unattainable Holy Grail until someone in a Disney collectibles community pointed me towards Robert Jordan. Been a fan ever since... especially of Nynaeve, Moiraine, and Mat. I have ideas for a few more paintings, and hopefully can at least get Graendal up before the grand finale book comes out in January!! Thanks again for the encouragement!!

Went back to look at your art and remembered how much I loved your Watcher of the Seals... started to add it to my favorites ...again, as I didn't realize it was already in there!! So it removed and I had to add it back in again!! LOL Since I also come from a watercolor background, I really appreciate your style. My guess is that you also like Rackham and Dulac, whose ink with watercolor bear some similarities... LOVE those guys. Some of your work also reminds me of some of the LOTR artwork through the years.

Thank you! Yes, Rackham, Mucha, and (more recently) Stephanie Pui-Mun Law [link] have all been inspirations for me. I'm also a huge fan of Alan Lee's concept art for LOTR--I used to want to be him when I grew up!

Stephanie's work is stunning!! Thanks so much for directing me to her work, which I of course added to my "watch" list. It's very Edmund Dulac, Kay Nielsen, Gustaf Tenggren... except with a modern sensibility and spiritual infusion kind of thing going on... very inspiring. Have you seen Tenggren's work for Disney's Pinocchio? He did the conceptual artwork... it changed from his original... became brighter... but you can still see some of the influence. You'd also like Kay Neilsen a lot, I think.

Nicely done. I intended to stop favoriting art nouveau works as I have enough of them, but this stands out. The hair has the swirls perfectly but also is unique to your style. The body language screams "louche," and the facial expression is beautiful.

Thanks! I think I will continue to experiment with the digital method. I've seen many paintings in DeviantArt that have a good acrylic or oil feel, but didn't know if I could get a watercolor appearance. I need to take a couple of classes... the only photoshop I know is basic info that a marketing friend taught me, so I'm slow and have to experiment a lot! The nice thing about digital is that experimenting is fearless because of the step backward option!!! LOL
