Description     In a world where the largest creature is twice the size of even the tallest two legged creature, it can be hard to find a natural enemy. And yet the largest creature, the Dragon, did indeed have a natural enemy. Known only as Predators, these creatures were once feared by all dragon kind. These Predators had gained the right to be feared through many generations of hunting and attacking any unwary dragon.

A single predator could be a bit over the quarter the size of a fully grown dragon. Its teeth and claws as sharp as swords. And their muscles big and numerous. And their numbers many.

The two species were always wary of each other, ready to strike the other and nether gaining the upper hand in natures circle of life. But over time the Dragons begin to win out. They grew intelligent, as did several other creatures on their world. And threw intelligence they gained technology. And as their technology grew they gained dominance over their natural enemy.

And yet even with the dominance they still fear and respect their natural enemy. Yet over time things have changed.

But to digress, this story is not about the dragons’ battles against the predators. No, it is about a single predator as he fights to stay alive in an ever changing world.

The predator in question is two and half years old, almost a full adult, almost fully grown. His teeth and claws have already acquired their natural sharpness from his life of growing up in the forest which he was born. His fur, a natural brown, helps in blend into his home environment, much like the rest of his pack. But in his fur is also some grey coloring, which does help him stand out amongst members of his pack, but that is never a good thing.

Again to digress, this predator has his own skills and is still learning, but he has been forced to learn on his own. And the thing he has learned to do best of all his hunt, which is what he does now…

Sniff….sniff….sniff There it was. I knew what I had smelt; the problem had been keeping track of it. My hunt was knew how to cover its tracks but now well enough.

With the sent again in my nose I followed the trail, moving quickly through the forest of my growth. I knew all the ways to move about a not give away that I was hunting. I had learned that trick after my first hunt had been taken from right under my muzzle.

sniff….sniff I was getting close, the smell is strong. I slow down and move a bit more stealthily through the underbrush to get a look at my target. Today it’s a large furry creature, four legged, seems to have some sort of twigs sticking out of its head. But that matters little, all I care about big it is.

The pack is running low on food and I need to find something…at least before the rest of the hunters do.

I move closer to see how my prey looks, and I find it big enough. I know that bigger the prey the harder it is to bring down, but I know what I’m doing. This will be an easy kill, for my prey is standing amongst even more underbrush as it eats at the nasty plants.

My prey has no idea that I am there as I slowly move forward, creeping through the bushes, grass and twigs. I make not a noise as I get within striking distance. I wait for it to turn just the right way…then I attack.

I am swift and decisive, running forward and breaking its leg, the jumping up and biting hard on its chest. The stupid creatures falls to the side breathing heavily and hardly moving.

It looks at me with pain filled eyes, “You stupid creature. Just finish it already.”

I smile like any of my can, “Well since you are so willing to die, so be it.” I rush forward and chomp on his throat and rip it open. I toss the hunk of meat into the underbrush and watch my prey die the rest of the way.

When I am satisfied that it is done I unleash the call, a howling bark. I have no let all of the pack know that tonight we eat well. And from the sound of it, I am also the first to finish a hunt.

I think little of that and go up to my prey. I need to get it back to the pack and it will be a long drag. So I bite onto one of the twigs sticking out of its head and start pulling. The thing weights more than the rocks near the dens but I can still move it.

I begin the slow long drag back to the pack.
