Not only by counting the number of growth rings can determine the age of a tree, but interpreting the spacing of growth rings can tell us much about it's life.How can we understand the mind if not looking backwards and examining our past. Trough time, our mind has become a mind within a mind - an endless journey of nested personalities.

I've always been fascinated by the russian Matryoska dolls. The concept of nesting dolls, growth rings and onions is with me when I think of age and personality.

I really enjoyed your presentation of the Matryoshka concept. I never quite related it to the rings in tree trunks and with age, until I saw your piece and thought it rather meaningful the interpretation behind the work.
Perhaps the Matryoshka is in itself, like a labyrinth too. We all seek eventually towards the end of life or some point in it, to reach the very core of our existence and identity. The process of self-maturation in knowing oneself leads us to this genuine path of perception that is not so much an inflated sense of ego and personal pride, but to really look into the shell of ourselves candidly.
I'd also like to think of the doll as the melancholic travel back to revisit the child in us from time to time, whether fragmented, distant or vulnerable.
A beautiful piece of which I am fond of the manner in which the body language of the hands evoke the openness of inquiry into the self and the mind as you interpreted it. Haunting in a good way. Thank you for this!

Very cool illustration. Seeing things like these, built from those little Russian dolls, have always been cool to look at. The dolls are weird in nature, after all - a person in a person in a person in a person in...

The nesting doll concept works marvelously with the nuetrals. Your near monastic character character holds the shells of grown and reveals an infant nature deep inside. The figure is likewise grotesque by the unnatural state of his appearance and the repugnance a viewer must feel towards him.
