Ummm, who's to say the tongue of the beast isn't pierced? I've heard of this as a form of leading Bears to and from circus's, because the tongue would be ruined if they moved slightly out of line. Also, it doesn't rid the beast of a sense like scent.

This is very nice. I like the concept and the earthy color palette you used.
