Ah well, that's what I get for playing so fast and loose with form. it's supposed to be a highly modified cat-girl who is in the thrall of the mind-controlling squids of one of Saturn's moons.

Said thralldom was very much a conscious choice on her part, too.

The background swirls, behind the sprawling tentacles, behind the curved arms -- the juxtapositioning is fabulous. I especially like how just one of the squids tentacles curls into a perfect spiral, while the rest are tangled about. That is a great touch.

Cool! Adore the squid and the swirling tentacles everywhere. That Baum quote is pretty creepy and translates over into the image.

I ran across the Baum quote when re-reading the books at random, a year or two back, and the whole tone of it perfectly matched the story of the character. She's an extreme mindplay fetish fantasy... there's a lot of creepy/hot borderline stuff going on.

The Oz books are really scattershot. Sometimes Baum obliquely brushes against Deep Things (and you're not sure if it's supposed to be there, or it's just you reading something else into it), and other times he drives you crazy with a bunch of terrible puns and forced Whimsey. The thing that they really reminded me of, re-reading as an adult, is Xanth without the sexual subtext.

At least they're all pretty short.
