Personality: Lottie is many things, but forgettable is not one of them. Never one to simply blend into a crowd, she doesn't seek attention, it just has a habit of finding her. Outspoken, opinionated and brave to the point of recklessness, there's very little she hasn't done or wouldn't try for the hell of it. The more dangerous the better. She defied her privileged upbringing and parent's beliefs from a very young age, and actually grew up quite self sufficient and resilient. A wild child and a dare devil, she has a bad habit of not submitting very well to authority and likes to bend the rules. Known to enjoy partying and having a good time especially with the boys, calling her an outrageous flirt would be an understatement. She's equally as liable to care little for the opinions of others and makes no excuses. She is wholly selfish and self driven, with no considerations for the troubles of others. Despite her numerous pitfalls, it all somehow adds up to make an extraordinary horse woman, ready to take whatever challenge life throws at her by the horns.
History:
There were a number of words that could be used to describe Scarlett Doherty.
Dangerous, would be one. Arrogant would be another. Brave, followed shortly by absolutely batshit insane. But there was no denying it, the girl was good with horses.
Born into an old racing family in the Hunter Valley, Lottie had been around horses from the moment she was born. To say it was in her blood would be an understatement. She was on one before she could walk, and everything about them seemed second nature to her. Her talent was fanned by her daddy’s deep pockets, and saw her collecting enough blue ribbons to wallpaper her room.
From almost as early it was apparent she possessed a wild streak: as a child she was forever where she wasn’t supposed to be, though the odds were look for horses and you would find her. Impromptu trail rides that left the farm searching for hours only to find her curled up safe and sound in her room, having snuck back to the house were not uncommon, along with barn sleepouts and even sneaking down to the track to exercise the racehorses in the mornings when her father forbade her from doing so.
As she entered teenagehood, her attentions were diverted slightly from their sole focus to boys and parties, as it became apparent she would grow far too tall to ever pursue her dream of becoming a jockey. A visit from a family friend soon saw her pointing down another path: the world of eventing. Her fiery personality found little patience for the subtleties of dressage, though she was far from bad at it. Her interests were instead captivated by show jumping and cross country, and almost as soon as she began competing in them she began to garner a reputation for what could only be described as death defying performances.
There seemed to be no limit for her - the girl was fearless, and even seemed to welcome the thrill of it all while those watching from the stands covered their eyes. How she managed to escape without broken bones is still a mystery, but what she possessed was an ability to know exactly how far she could push before falling off the cliff, so to speak. The jumps and angles she attempted should have been near suicidal, but more times than not she came away with clear rounds, much to the astonishment of the crowd and judges alike.
Even before graduating she had her sights set on great things again: this time the Olympics. With her dreams of winning the Melbourne Cup long since dashed, this seemed a far more realistic goal, and she certainly seemed to possess the talent for it. However she continued to defy her parents by sneaking out for days at a time, disappearing and reappearing without notice and generally breaking the rules. Finally after embarrassing her entire family at a function by hooking up rather loudly with one of the client’s sons, she was turfed out and cut off from family funding at the age of 21. Not to be discouraged, she promptly took her favourite jumper and marched down the driveway with whatever she managed to salvage from her room. Since then, she’s been trying for months to find a stable where she could gain employment, to pay for Cabernet’s board and try and keep her eventing dreams alive.
