Despite the disquiet among the staff following the new stallion and his consequent choice of rider, the pair seemed to content to ignore the glares and whispers. Adriane made it no secret she was less than impressed with the owner’s decision to place another rider – a relative unknown – on the stable’s figurehead for the performance Arabians. Lottie was watching the whole drama with an amused smirk as usual, her position as the craziest albeit successful jumper at the stable still secure. The boys were pretty miffed they were far too big to ride the gorgeous stallion, who had been dubbed Gandalf, and they seemed to have to bear the brunt of Adriane’s moods. Just another day at the farm.

The grey stallion’s rider, Sydney Macintosh, was also less than impressed with the attitude she was getting from the other staff members, choosing instead to spend a lot of her time working with her new personal charge and generally parading around with an air of indifference and arrogance. This attitude couldn’t have helped the already tense relations between Adriane and herself, however it did see the stallion settling into his new home and working like a dream in preparation for his first show with the Willowglen team.

The event was chosen, the date was set. While Arabians prancing around a dressage arena was not as uncommon as one might think back in Australia, it was another matter entirely in Belgium – the location of the grey stallion’s rendezvous with fate. The stable had hoped to keep him a little closer to home, however with the majority of the large shows done and dusted in their own country they were forced to search for greener pastures elsewhere.

You can imagine the looks the two got when they arrived. They were the outsiders here too, only this time the judgment was placed upon Gandalf and not his rider. Much like back at Willowglen they walked head and pride held high through the stalls of drafts and wambloods that comparatively towered over them. They would show them, they would show them all. Just because they were different didn’t mean they were inferior. It just meant they were something new.
