wonderful shot...there is an oppressiveness about grain silos - they are usually so contrasted with their surrounding landscapes, I like that feeling here!

I love silos. They remind me my hometown. Very good B&W.

They can be interesting subjects in terms of photography - not easy to catch, though ...
But what is it about silos and your hometown ?

Canankk In reply to EintoeRn [2017-01-24 20:10:29 +0000 UTC]

My hometown, Konya is called Wheat Silo of Turkey. During June, all around the city looked like a wheat sea when I was a kid. Now it has over 2 million population and not different than the ordinary cities.
Just a little out of the city, there was a very old hotel (14th Century) and next to it, there was a wheat silo. When I saw them together, they used to enchant me. Now the old hotel is lost in the crowd of the city and there is no silo.

I took a look. BIG city, indeed - ad a little nostalgic story probably many of us can tell with slight modifications ...

Just a random question because I'm curious- does your camera let you shoot in square format or do you just shoot at the normal ratio and think in terms of square composition?

I realise the latter is far more likely but I dunno, the idea of a high-end camera that can shoot it 1:1 amuses me

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

EintoeRn In reply to angussporran [2012-06-17 18:29:17 +0000 UTC]

Interesting question. As - indeed - ever so often I already think in terms of squares. You can see from the EXIF data that it is a Canon 50D - medium end SLR with normal ratio that I use.
They have digital Hasselblads now - starting around 10,000 Euro - and even more to carry as I have to with my equipment

angussporran In reply to EintoeRn [2012-06-17 18:42:46 +0000 UTC]

for sure Ah yeah I should have looked at that! Crumbs. The camera market gets crazy once you get near the top!

EintoeRn In reply to angussporran [2012-06-17 18:45:54 +0000 UTC]

Yes. Square does not always work, though, imho.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

angussporran In reply to EintoeRn [2012-06-17 19:38:09 +0000 UTC]

certainly not, no. You can only get so epic with the square format before things need to get wider!

- DAS ist ja wirklich sehr schmeichelhaft! Danke sehr!
