Description "What is the music of life?"

So my vampire wood-elf assassin Ingrath wanted a picture. This honestly wasn't something I expected to be working on today but there it is! I guess this kinda doubled as a landscape/environment light/atmosphere study.

A Note on Ingrath's Hair: the default "long hair" style for male characters in Skyrim is... ehhh. It's very flat and a little stringy, but it's the only one that fit him. I would have had a problem with it, except I had a wild idea and decided it's flat and stringy because Ingrath - being from Valenwood, where it is a literal rainforest - keeps the sides of his head cut short so that it's easier to deal with in hot weather. Obviously, being in Skyrim, he needs some hair to protect his ears, so he's let it grow out somewhat, but still keeps the undercut for sentimental reasons.

Ingrath is... messy? Shall we say? Mostly it depends on the range. He's an archer long-range, an ice mage mid-range, and an axe-wielder short-range. If he can sneak up on a person he'll take them out by way of draining them. And he is a beast when he gets surrounded. Adaptable should be his middle name. He's currently wearing a set of engraved Bosmer armor. He'll probably be in it for a while because it really suits him.

Also, story-wise he's the guy who trained Zaytest (my khajiit) in the ways of stealth. In a way, he's kinda her adoptive father-figure, given the vast age gap between them. He's also weirdly devoted to Hircine and Mephala?? Mostly Hircine? I'm thinking it's because he's a hunter but honestly that came out of nowhere with him and I'm not sure what to think about it. He's also a very lonely person. Doesn't trust many people after his old chosen-family got destroyed and the subsequent bandit gang he was in got run out by a rival group. I do have someone in mind for him down the line, though! Way down the line, but eventually.

Beautiful work! I'd love to know even more about him.

Thanks! I want to know more about him too, but he's being rather shadowy. Appropriate, I'd say.

This is really lovely, but there is a darkness to the image when you look at the character.  Though I don't know a lot of the info about him (I have no friggen clue about the Skyrim world but for the fact everybody seems to be playing it and I'm still stuck on a Pokemon game from 7 years ago....), I want to sit here and analyze him, but that's just end up wanting to hug him....and not all characters want to have the stuffing snuggled out of them (Some bite...some whine...some threaten...some run away screaming about cooties [...Algis...]).    Not to mention, assassin's can be sneaky buggers!  (I'm looking at you, Slander....)

Over all, and from a personal view who has no background with Skyrim, this is really beautiful.  The background is stunningly beautiful with subtle illumination while the foreground is dark with deep shadows.  With both of these, he sticks out right in the front even though he, too, is in shadow.  But even so, the detail of his clothing is still evident and not lost.  (Yay for some artsy stuff from me).

...I'm going to go cough now...

Yeah, Ingrath is a pretty dark dude. He "told me" (read as: I figured it out by way of brain percolation) his story about a week ago while I was in the midst of riding from one place to another, and it's pretty sad, actually. He does care about people, those closest to him especially, but on the other hand he kills people for hire. (Bounties, assassination contracts, random bandits like that dude in the lower right.) It's a weird conundrum to work with a character who is so utterly vicious most of the time but passionately adoring at other times. Much like Slander, I imagine, now that I think about it!

I debated with myself for at least an hour over whether I wanted a backlight on him, but decided keeping him in shadow was the way to go. I'm glad I did! Playing around with light and contrast is so fun.

Get well soon!

He does sound like Slander!      Slander really does love his wife and daughters.  He would do anything for them and would protect them to his last breath, but he would take candy from a baby if paid to do it.  He sees his 'kills' as jobs and will not kill or do anything 'illegal' without payment.  I guess he would be considered lawful evil in a way.  :3  And it can be emotionally tricky to work with such characters, you're right about that!   Yet, when finished, working with them can be very rewarding as they can add so much depth to the psychology of a story and to the cast of characters and events.

I can only imagine how much fun it is for a talented artist, like yourself (brownie points!), who have the ability to play around with their pictures and not cry...because straight lines are agonizingly difficult.  (damn you straight lines....damn you!)

I'm getting better.  10 days of a cold is not fun...
