The lighting is really cool! He looks like he's really enjoying himself,  making all that thunder and rain.

Thanks!

And why wouldn't he?  He'd probably imagine all the power of storm he can conduct.

I think I also remember that they'd have mini plush collectables of Aztec gods (Tlaloc being one of them) at El Museo Nacional de Antropología. Tlaloc was the one I wanted to get, but I kept forgetting to buy it. lol

Interesting character design! Whatever he is doing, he seems to be having fun!

On that note, the context is a little unclear here. I can't tell what the character is doing or why he is doing it. So for next time, keep in mind how your painting is communicating with the viewer and try to make it as obvious as possible.

Good choice of colours. There is a strong sense of light direction, although the shading and lighting could be more intense for dramatic effect. Perhaps add some skin texture to make the body less uniform.

Overall, quite an interesting concept!

Do you perhaps still have the original? I'd like to directly compare it if possible.

Yep this shows a lot of improvement!

By adding the light source and more dramatic shading and lighting the piece definitely feels more epic and polished. The shading on the arm accentuates the impact of his magical ability.
The new (or is it just altered?) background adds smoother flow to the composition.

Also, I think adding the eyes makes it seem like he's really enjoying himself more than when his eyes were only white. Then there is the little decorative touches that add more character to the character design (hehe).

So great work!

oops, Forgot about that

Tlaloc is the Aztec God of rain and water, I interpret him as a deity who triggers rain and storms by drumming on the clouds and causing thunder simultaneously.

Thanks for the advice too, I tend to go back and forth from using the airbrush to using solid colors for shading so I never can really tell which one's more effective.

As always, your input is very helpful
