The second mask, that I "finished" the day before the medieval faire
It was far from perfect but I'll definitively make more of them. It allowed me to hide my face and my insecurities, to have a raison to stay silent for hours, and protected my eyes from the harsh sunlight that I wouldn't have been able to stand so long otherwise. And a lot of people asked to take pictures of me/with me so I guess it was a success

Plague Doctor mask progressJust wanted to share some progress shots of my first plague doctor mask
I'm planning two plague doctor outfits : one for a medieval fair this summer, and a steampunk inspired one for november. This first mask is for the medieval version, so I wanted it to be white, plain and simple. I didn't need it to be exactly symmetrical, in fact I liked the idea of a more organic look due to asymmetry. The only obligation I had is that I need to be able to wear my prescription glasses underneath as I have a very bad eyesigh and photophobia.Β Β
First, I made a base out of aluminium foil.
I covered it with paper mache.
Lots of layers.
Testing the lenses fit.
The general shape finished. Quite creepy, right ?
I tried plaster but it did

I made a mask before out of papier mache but I used cardboard as a base.
But aluminum seems easier to mold the face with.
