An excellent tutorial and although written for illustrator, this will not be a tough one to do in Inkscape either. Thanks for this, its very detailed and well written.

Can i ask a favor of you though. I am trying to use the brush tool and i cant figure out why my design keeps disappearing when i go to add onto it.
For example... I am learning to draw a pear free hand, i get the body in one stroke but when i go to stroke the stem on top the body disappears... Why is it doing this please help.

ElectraSinclair In reply to xLiquid-DnB [2010-07-22 07:48:55 +0000 UTC]

oh, depending on what version of Illustrator you are using it could be because the program thinks you are altering the stroke you did first.
Try clicking (not with the brush tool) away from the stroke of the main shape (so that it is deselected) before you do the next stroke.
Give that a go

OH my lantiss how did you know, thats unreal now you can tell im new eh. Well thank you very much now i can learn some more stuff thanks to you Favorited

ElectraSinclair In reply to xLiquid-DnB [2010-07-22 08:05:24 +0000 UTC]

No don't worry about it; it took me a while to figure that one out too. Newer versions of Illustrator don't do it, but it can be useful if you just want to alter a bit of your stroke
thank you

hi can i ask? i'm new of using illustrator on making vector and i'd like to do the set view line on your tutorial. Could you please tell me where can enable this? thanks a lot with your tutorial. I learned a lot.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ElectraSinclair In reply to SystemChloride [2010-06-19 23:52:07 +0000 UTC]

next to each layer in illustrator there are two little buttons on the left, a little eye and a chain link.
to turn the layer visibility onto line view Command (on a mac) or Cntrl (on a PC) click on the little eye button.
the eye will change to an outlined eye and you will see your shapes as lines.
hope that helps
