Description This is today's little knotworky effort. I've been asked to create a blackberry flower and knotwork tattoo, and while this is nothing like what it will look like, it was my first attempt at getting my idea of blackberries and knotwork down on paper, just to see what came out.

I haven't actually liked much of the knotwork stuff I've done recently, but I love the knot in this. I made up and it just seemed to flow, even if it is a bugger to draw!

I like doing stuff like this, it somehow starts to fix how I associate concepts with tangible efforts on paper. And always brings up questions that had never occurred to me before. Such as:

1) pink or white flowers?
2) what shaped flowers - blackberry flowers are so diverse in shape, I've noticed. Ditto the leaves.
3) how many thorns should be visible?

I love this. You took half a Josephine knot and then sent it flowing in among other swashes and swoops and created an original knot. I went looking at it and following the lines, and it's so beautiful.

Can't wait to see your letter B. I guess *TheKnotters won't post the entries until all of them are in. I posted my linework already as a color me, for anyone so inclined, especially anyone with N for an initial. If I'd gotten R or S, I'd have been using it for my icon but putting N up would be a little silly.

*takes a deep breath and flops* now I have time to answer some more of your messages. Now the peacock of doom is finished.

I'm now going to confess complete and utter ignorance - what's a Josephine knot? Did I make something clever?

You made something clever. A Josephine Knot is one of those very cool complex knots that repeats itself. It's not continuous-strand. It's fun because you can put them in a row and use them to link different strands. It was one of the first knotwork designs I learned because someone wanted me to do a border of them on something back in the 90s. I used it for a border on a poster for my street art stuff once too.

Yay! Pink and green really do look lovely together. Nice variations of both colors in a well balanced design. Just beautiful.

I love the knot, and I didn't even notice the thorns until you mentioned thorns. Hehe.

Unfortunately I don't know much about blackberry flowers either, although I have seen mostly white ones or faintly pink tinged ones. But that's about it.

1) White flowers are prettier, but for a tattoo, white ink isn't the best.

2) I like the five-lobed flower for a tat, and the jagged-edged leaves, but that's just me...pointy!stabby!

3) Lots. Blackberries are briars from hell. Lots and lots of thorns. But that's just me, 'cause I like pointy!stabby!
