Hmmm! I am cant say much about the area covered with green and blue color but rest of areas have realistic texture and the writing style gives it the real effect. Is is handwritten or any font used?

I was browsing through galleries of members of ~calligraphers. You are quite a varied artist. Keep up the good work.

I didn't know that Imladris was organized more or less along the lines of a New Zealand marae...
Hall of fire = wharenui, Kitchen house behind, and sleeping quarters separate...

OMG lol! I hadn't noticed that! It was obviously a subconscious nod to the NZ Rivendell of the films

Elegaer, I had to add this to my favorites. I don't RPG, but I participate in a 'group story' that is similar to a RPG and my character (Avarahaiel) was fostered by Elrond in his Elven haven. I think we should knock heads together sometime. I'd like to know more about your character Elegaer.

I would say than our stuff is more like a "group story" than an RP too! Sometimes we write together, sometimes apart, originally focussing around Elegaer. But its expanded to such a huge degree! And now it's pretty much based in Imladris from around TA3000 to the start of the Fourth Age - so mostly with Elrond in charge of the haven, and then later with Elladan in charge (after Elrond sails). You can find the original story ("Dark Wings") at Council of Elrond here , if you ever find a day to spare to read a looooong story- its worth it though, its a great story (so I've been told!! )

But I'm just right now setting up a website for all the other spin-off stories (which have now completely taken over the whole thing!), and thats going to include all our maps and ideas about, and pictures of, Imladris. I'll let you know when thats almost presentable - a week or two hopefully!

Thanks for the link! Hmm... must learn how to add a link in a post here so I can recipricate.

Our little group story is taking place I believe 20 years prior to the WOTR, but it incorporates characters from 3 different fan fics that vary in the times they take place. For example my character in the GS is the mother of the character in my personal fanfic, and that takes place in the Fourth Age.

Now if someone would tutor me on posting links... I'll post one...

if you want to post a link quickly, just put in the url and dA will make it into a link for you! Like [link]

or if you want it to look pretty like elegaer's wonderful dA page , you use the following html ... avara's pretty html link (but add a space in between the a and the href at the start, and take out the space between the / and the a at the end!)

hope that makes some sense!

ACK! You'd never know I actually know how to write html. *sigh* I obviously left something out since the links didn't work. Let's try this again...

WRoR's Group Story
Caranlachwen's Tale

And just in case that didn't work...

Thanks, Elegaer! I wondered if it was simple html.

So, as promised, if you find the time and are so inclined, here is the WRoR Group Story. It is still a WIP, even though we've had a bit of a hiatus. My personal story can be found in this thread.

I'm planning to find some free time so I can read your story.

Nice map. I however think that the library is a little small, isn't it supposed to be one of the greatest ones of Middle Earth, with the one of Minas Tirith?
I have never understood how Imladris could be a stronghold that could have resisted a siege by Sauron at the end of the Second Age. There was never any mention of fortifications, even natural ones, and I don't think guerilla warfare or magic tricks like the flood Elrond
unleashed on the Ringwraiths could hold Sauron's armies in check for more than a few weeks...

elegaer In reply to Armel [2005-06-19 16:09:27 +0000 UTC]

Ah well, the library goes underground as well That bit is only the "recent acquisitions" section and the map room Not that you'd ever know that from the map!!

I suppose a stronghold doesn't have to be "strong" - if Imladris is set deep in a valley, it should be easily defendable against even a much larger army. Well, that's the impression I always got from reading stuff about Elrond setting up Imladris - no great big fortification, more natural resistance reinforced by buildings deep in the valley.

Armel In reply to elegaer [2005-06-19 23:07:47 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I guess they could resist for some time, but years seems to be a little too long for me. In the end, the black tide would have reached them no matter what. But I agree that other buildings, maybe mixtures between regular forts and refuges like the one at Amon Hen, must have existed and protected Imladris itself in case of war.
Anyway, back to the library, I don't think that putting books underground is a good idea, they would rot easilly due to the moisture... wait, those are elven caves and elven books I'm speaking of, so forget what I was saying, those crafty eldalië will have invented non-rotting books or magically dried caves.

elegaer In reply to Armel [2005-06-20 07:31:32 +0000 UTC]

I agree on Rivendell seeming to hold out for far too long really ... months maybe, a year maybe - many years? Not so sure. I think we'll have to put it down to the invaders being frightened of Elrond's eyebrows of doom

As for books and underground - it *can* be a very bad idea, and it *can* be a very good idea, depending on what the ground is made of. Trying to just dig down into soil is obviously a bad idea without extensive air conditioning and humidity monitoring! But if the stuff under the ground is hard rock, natural or man (elf) - made caves can provide a very low humidity and cool environment for archive material. And I would think that Rivendell is founded on bed rock, simply because of the shape of the surroundings, and because of the Bruinen cutting through the valley.

And yeah, if that doesn't work, I'll just fall back on Eldar craftsmanship!
