Very nice. How on earth do you get everything to be so perfect? ^_^ This belongs in a Tolkien book.

I love how used the Shards of Narsil to deliniate the text. The central design is very reminiscent of Tolkien's own style and the colorus remind me of the picture I found at [link] of Rivendell that Tolkien painted. I think the brown text as it is doesn't stand out enough, and would be a little more legible if outlined in gold, but other than that, it is lovely. I like the little Gondorian helm...

Very nice design, extremely 'Tolkien-ish' indeed. It seems to represent the White Tree as not just a glorious thing, but a thing of beauty and sort of tenderness as well. Lovely. Can I ask, what was the idea for the two broken swords at the bottom of the image as opposed to the straight ones at the top? I don't know why, but that looks nice and I wonder if there's more to them than we know. Anyway, regardless, great job!

Well ... the swords are meant to be Narsil at the top and AndΓΊril at the bottom. But I'm not very impressed with myself, looking back. They *look* nice, but Narsil has the wrong designs on the blade, and really I'm not entirely sure what Narsil and AndΓΊril have got to do with the White Tree of Gondor, apart from a general both being mentioned in rhymes of lore "Deep roots are not reached by the frost. ... Renewed shall be blade that was broken" etc etc

I've got much more in tune with symbolism since then. I think I can probably hang my head in shame on that pic and say I thought the swords would look pretty and then forced a bit of symbolism onto them, whether it really fitted or not. I don't really find that acceptable for my work any more - I am getting so involved in using ideas of symbolism and heraldry in Tolkien's world. One day I will complete my Encyclo of Ardan Heraldry project, and then probably retire happy

I don't think it's a big deal that the symbolism isn't exact. I know where you're coming from though-- I look back at some of my older Tolkien pieces and think I've got things wrong, or emphasised certain aspects in slightly the wrong way, more so than should be. But I think that's just natural, and something to look back on and learn from .

I agree - I don't think its such a big deal for the overall picture that symbolism is exactly right - but, in my own mind, I like to know that I've got it as right as I can. And, maybe being a bit too full of myself, I would like to think that Tolkien might approve of my work based on his ideas of symbolism, and as such, I like to put a decent amount of effort into getting things *right*.

I definitely empathise with you here. Tolkien went into such extreme detail in his work, passionately so, and so I think that as artists take inspiration from his writings and portray what is after all his creation, it’s only right that they should feel almost a need to try and represent things in a way that respects it and of course the Professor himself. I guess the symbolism has to make sense in the nomenclature as whole before it can make sense to you. Otherwise, I guess it's hard for the artist to enjoy their own work, at least to a certain extent.

This is really good Similar to Tolkien's drawing style, as others have noticed before me.. I especially like the tree itself

Thank you! I'm just so honoured by anyone mentioning a similarity to Tolkien's style The tree was "borrowed" from the design of one of Alan Lee's trees from the film, a fact I completely forgot about when he was looking through my portfolio - though luckily he looked at it and smiled and said he was really glad the tree was being adopted into pretty things!

That is a gorgeous design, I must say. Reminds me of something you'd see on the Bayeux Tapestry. Love the distinct colours on this, and those swords! Very nice!
